Acklam Medical Centre is an accredited Veteran Friendly GP Practice.

We are proud to support our Armed Forces community. Our accreditation shows we can deliver the best possible care and treatment for patients who have served in the armed forces.

As a Veteran Friendly GP Practice we:

⚫️Have a clinical lead for veteran health Paula Gilroy
⚫️Ask patients ‘Have you served?’ to identify veteran patients
⚫️Support veteran patients to access dedicated health services
⚫️Undertake specialist training to meet the health commitments of the Armed Forces Covenant.

Let a member of staff know if you, or your spouse/partner, have ever served in the UK armed forces. This will help us best support your care needs.

MMRV is now part of the NHS routine childhood vaccination programme, replacing the MMR vaccine.

It protects against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox.

Chickenpox is very common and can sometimes lead to serious complications, so vaccination helps reduce the risk of serious illness as children grow.

You don’t need to do anything — your GP will be in touch when your child is due. If you would like to talk about the vaccines please ask at reception and we can arrange for one of our nurses to call you to discuss them.

Today we proudly welcomed the fantastic team at Acklam Medical Centre into the Dementia Friendly Community of Middlesbrough! 💙

The team showed an amazing committment to learning more about people living with dementia and the carers who support them. This dedication means patients and families will receive more understanding, compassionate, and person-centred care.

It’s so important for medical practices to become dementia friendly because early recognition, patience, and tailored support can make a huge difference to someone’s quality of life. When healthcare teams understand dementia, they help reduce stigma, improve communication, and create safer, more supportive environments for everyone.

Well done to the whole team at Acklam Medical Centre for your amazing commitment to your patients and the wider community. 🌟
