Just a little bit about me to introduce myself and my background. I completed a BA in Sociology and English, studying Sociology provided me with the opportunity to understand some of the ideas, perspectives and programs that become part of who a person is, these are located in the social construction of society and where our place is expected to be in it. This is rooted within the socialisation of a person, highlighting the inequalities that exit as well as the challenges that we face on a day-to-day basis.
I then began working within residential childcare and remained there for 8 years while studying social work, working with care experienced young people is an absolute privilege and taught me so much about myself as well as providing a therapeutic holding space for the young people that I worked with. Working alongside young people throughout the day and night, sometimes 24 hours allowed me to work with young people in the “other 23 hours”. I was approached to completed BA in residential childcare social work where I qualified in 2013. Within this degree I trained in human development, brain development, trauma and trauma informed practice, assessment, planning and interventions. There are numerous interventions that are used that are informed by the assessment, my work practice is under pinned by relationship-based practice, with a strengths-based approach and trauma informed practice.
I completed training and a placement within a residential school that specialised in Attachment theory, brain development with a DDP approach to therapeutic intervention. I also completed therapy in EMDR in order to process my own development which is vital when working with children, young people and adults as we have to have self-awareness and continuous professional development in order to work both ethically and within evidence-based practice. I also completed a placement within a statutory children and families team which strengthened my knowledge in relation to legislation as well as advocacy available to children and families.
I then worked within children and families for a further 6 years further expanding my training in assessment, planning and intervention, child development. I have 1000s of hours in training and experience in order to work with people on a 1:1 basis as well as group work.
I have also gained qualifications and training in holistic therapy such as reiki, crystal healing, guided meditation, sound healing and more.
And more importantly I have lived a life with my own experience of trauma and adversities that have impacted on my own life and currently on own healing journey.
I am currently building a charity called “the hold space” along with my very good friend and cofounder Mhairi for children and young people. Our aim is to provide a therapeutic emotional holding space in order to support young people and their families to work through whatever struggles they may have at this point in time as well as provide a safe space to explore their developmental potential.
I offer 1 to 1 appointments offering various therapies which can be located at the top of my page.
