🦴 Tendonitis vs. Tendinosis — What’s the real difference🤔

🚨Although these terms are often used interchangeably, they describe very different conditions of the tendon.

🔹Tendonitis refers to an acute inflammation of a tendon, usually caused by sudden overuse, injury, or repetitive strain. Because the tissue is inflamed, symptoms often include sharp pain, warmth, swelling, and tenderness, especially during or right after activity. This is your body’s immediate response to irritation.

🔹Tendinosis, on the other hand, is a chronic, degenerative condition. Instead of inflammation, the tendon fibers have started to break down and weaken over time due to repetitive overload and poor healing. This often presents as dull, aching pain, stiffness (especially in the morning), and reduced strength or flexibility, but not as much swelling as tendonitis.

💡 In simple terms:
Tendonitis = inflammation (short-term)
Tendinosis = degeneration (long-term)

⚠️ Treating them the same can delay recovery. While rest and inflammation control may help tendonitis, tendinosis typically requires progressive loading, strengthening, and rehab to rebuild tendon health.

✨ If your “tendonitis” has lasted for months, it might actually be tendinosis.
