This month's notice board is all about staying safe this summer holiday season. If you are in the surgery this month you'll see it under the TV screen in reception.

Thankfully the 'phone issue was temporary and we're all back to normal now. Apologies to anyone inconvenience this morning.

We're having a little, hopefully temporary, difficulty with our 'phones this morning. They are ringing in and we can answer them but we can't hear anything (and we suspect patients can't hear us). We're working to get this sorted out as soon as possible but apologies in advance for anyone trying to get through, we are here in the building and the online consultation system on our website is still functioning as normal.

Starting this month we are now offering early morning 'phone consultations with a doctor on a Thursday between 7 and 8am, pre-bookable in advance. You can book these by contacting reception or by using the NHS App. These are in addition to the later evening appointments we are still offering on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

You probably will have seen in the news that, from today, Mounjaro can be prescribed by GPs for weight management purposes. However all GP’s in Coventry and Warwickshire have been told by the Integrated Care Board (ICB) who commission healthcare in this area, NOT TO PRESCRIBE the drug yet.

The medication needs to be used as part of an entire weight loss service, which goes beyond just the drug and this won’t be in place until September at the earliest. Even once this is in place the drug will only be available for a limited range of patients who are at the highest need:

BMI over 40
AND AT LEAST FOUR OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
Type 2 diabetes
High blood pressure
Cardiovascular disease
Obstructive sleep apnoea
High cholesterol

So, for the time being please don’t book an appointment with us to try to get a prescription for these drugs to try to lose weight, as we won’t be able to help you. For more information please click on the link below to the ICB’s web page on weight loss drugs:

Announced today, there's been some changes to the frequency of cervical screening, which affects younger women. From July, younger women (aged 25 to 49) who test negative for HPV, meaning they are at very low risk of cervical cancer over the next 10 years, will safely be invited at 5-year intervals rather than 3, in line with major clinical evidence.

Around 80% of our patients are up to date with their smears which means about 20% aren't and if you have missed an invitation we would encourage you to contact us to book an appointment.

As many of you will know the easiest way to order medication is online through the website or using an app. There is a facility to add a message to the request, which is there to allow you to make specific medication based comments. We won't, however, directly respond to more detailed messages about your general health and once the script is issued the message is lost.

If you do have a request about your general health, want an appointment, need the advice of a doctor or pharmacist etc. please use the online consultation facility which is on the front page of our website, not via the medication request function:

Just a reminder that it is the last of the spring Bank Holidays coming up next Monday so we will be closed. If you are due to run out of medication in early next week try to get your request in as soon as possible to give the pharmacy and ourselves time to process it.

Well it looks like this was quite a short outage this time and the system seems to be back online again. Apologies for any inconvenience during the time it was down.

19/05/2025

Unfortunately our clinical system has gone down over lunch so we are unable to access any patient information, create prescriptions etc. This appears to be at least a county wide issue affecting all GP practices. We don't know how long this situation will last but please bear with us at the moment as it is out of our control.
