As a GP surgery, we believe it's important to raise awareness about UV safety to help prevent skin-related health issues among our patients.

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun and artificial sources like tanning beds can cause skin damage, leading to premature ageing and increasing the risk of skin cancer.

Please remember these helpful tips when enjoying the sunshine;
wear sunscreen with a high SPF, wearing protective clothing such as hats and sunglasses, and seeking shade during peak sun hours.

If you are concerned about any skin changes then please call the surgery for advice on ; 01789 763060

From 1 July 2025, routine cervical screening intervals will be extended from 3 to 5 years for participants aged 25-49 who test negative for HPV after attending cervical screening on or after this date.

HPV testing is the best way to find out at an early stage who is at higher risk of developing the cervical cell changes that over time could potentially lead to cervical cancer if left untreated.

Studies have shown that if a person tests negative for HPV they are extremely unlikely to go on to develop cervical cancer within the next 10 years. A study in England, published by King’s College London, showed that 5-year screening intervals are as safe as 3-year intervals; the same number of cancers will be prevented and less frequent cervical screening tests are needed.

We understand this may worry some of our patients, and appreciate that this news may come as a shock. We do have to follow the NHS guidelines, but if you have any concerns or symptoms then please do speak to a GP.

Today we’re thinking about how our practice can be aware and take action to protect our environment. Here at the surgery we have improved our recycling system and now also use green food waste bins in the surgery to help the environment. We also work hard to reduce medicine wastage, and encourage our patients to not over order on stock. Please check what you have at home before ordering and be clear when you do order.

Remember that unused medicines cannot be recycled – even if you never open them, once medicines have left the pharmacy, they cannot be recycled or used by anyone else..

Let's work together to support our environment!

This week, is Mental Health Awareness Week, so we feel it is important to raise the topic.

It is estimated that one in four adults suffers from a mental health problem of some kind each year. People suffering from poor mental health need support and to have their voices heard.

We support Mind in their campaign for raising awareness for mental health issues, and we support anyone that is suffering.

If you are a patient and feel you may benefit from some support, please give us a call. We are here for you.
