I listened to something recently that explored how wellbeing meaning and practice varied across cultural approachesā¦
It highlighting how our western approach was generally to ignore or exclude our experiences of pain and suffering and how our wellbeing industry makes everything look perfect, rose tinted, and unobtainable or exploits the idea of ārapid transformationā feeding an unrealistic and unhealthy relationship with quick fixesā¦. My opinion these often donāt actually deliver what we really need anyway, perhaps because isnāt what wellbeing really is.
This got me thinking more about the modalities that I know and trust, that have show me the importance of being with our experiences, good, bad and ugly and learning how they can both provide healing as well as growth to learn how best to be well in every momentā¦no matter what life throws our way. To both hold joy and pain, light and darkā¦to fully live in the moment, making room for all of it in balance.
I believe now that wellbeing is far less about being good at being healthy, saying or doing the right thingā¦practicing yoga or meditation dailyā¦or any other practice, no matter how good these are (but not to underestimate their importance).
itās more about having the courage everyday to ask yourself āwhat do I need in this momentā¦to show up for myselfā
even when itās easier to push down or avoid the things that are hard or hurt, just because thatās easierā¦
It is the the courage to be open hearted and keep seeking, keep learning, keep releasing, keep growing, keep loving, keep healing, because well-being is an actionā¦for many people often in the midst of discomfort and even pain.
It is the relationship with our truest selfā¦the world around us and finding a way to beā¦with all of it.
So true well-being is not pain freeā¦
I would love to know more about the ups and downs of your welling journey, let me know in the comments or message. š
