Good Will Hunting. A superb film and one of the most depict demonstrations of Psychotherapy in film I’ve seen (there’s some very questionable ones!)

Robin Williams captures the beauty of the therapeutic relationship and the gift of being in someone’s world when they are in the depths of their struggle and at their most vulnerable.
Robin battled his own demons personally I believe so it’s no wonder he was able to give this character the depth it conveyed. Powerful stuff. A personal fav movie but if you’re thinking of watching have the tissues at the ready!

Has anyone seen the brilliant BBC adaptation of Janice Hadlows ‘The other Bennet sister’ carrying on from Jane Austen’s ‘Pride & Prejudice’.

Whilst famous for its love story (Mr Hayward and his poetic versus *swoon*) but mostly for its story about self discovery, resilience, self worth and courage. Mary was written by Austen as the ‘plain’ sister but also someone who was intelligent, bold, adventurous, caring and kind. She had to learn to believe this in herself. In a world where beauty reined she made her self concept her best asset!

If Janices message was anything it was, be more Mary and don’t be afraid to ‘become’ who you are destined to be, not merely how others see you to be.

‘The most important thing is to be yourself’ - Mary Bennet.

Below is a good read - If you step into therapy be ready to transform!

Sometimes life can feel like an endless slog. Work commitments, relationship struggles, financial worries, these all add up. But do not forget the power of persistence, courage and determination. They all help you achieve your goals, big or small. If they don’t feel like you then aspire to them, believe in yourself.

Winston Churchill battled depression throughout his life, referring to it as his ‘Black dog’ (it’s a good read) and this quote of his resonates with me. Even when you’re low have faith & courage in who you are and what you can achieve 💪

Do you ever feel lonely? Existential philosophy suggests that we’re all fundamentally alone which isn’t untrue but it’s not healthy to process all our emotions ourselves. Enter chat - Therapy. A space to talk, discus, say things out loud that perhaps have only ruminated in your head or heart. Therapy doesn’t ‘fix’ these things but it helps unpack it all so you can see it more clearly.

Have you been around horses?

Combining my love and passion for horses and people, I am excited to announce that I intend to (finally!) embark on my next stage of my Psychotherapy journey in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP).

Horses have been apart of my core soul since I was a little girl and I often remark if my ponies & horses could have spoken over the years they would dish my dirt! Trust that they were handsomely paid in carrots.
Like every true therapist they kept all my secrets and soothed all my emotions.
They offered love, attunement and care until the last furlong.
Whilst Polo, dressage, drag hunting and hacking were all terrible fun it was simply being around them that offered the most healing 🙏 Horses have a special way of mirroring our blind spots, our interruptions and meet us on a soul level.

So if you are interested in how horses have a special way of unlocking trauma, emotions and pain have a read of this article from the Counselling Directory and roll on Oct 2026!

How resilient are you in your life? Resilience towards failure is a skill best learnt introspectively.

To quote one of my favourite modern day psychologists - Jordan Peterson (he has a great podcast)

He defines resilience as

“The capacity to withstand life's inevitable, unpredictable, and often tragic disruptions by embracing reality, fostering gratitude, and adopting responsibility. He advocates for strengthening the self through incremental improvement, facing fear, and developing competence”

If you want to improve your ‘resilience’ Psychotherapy can help you.
