The Abbeyfield Society was founded by Richard Carr-Gomm in 1956 to alleviate loneliness among older people who were living unsupported and with little contact with others. Some are managed centrally by the National Society, but most are managed by individual independent Abbeyfield member societies. Abbeyfield South Downs is one such society; a merger of former smaller member societies which have joined together to benefit from shared expertise and efficiencies.

We LOVE a BBQ! 🌭☀️

Give us a bit of sunshine (or even just a dry afternoon!) and we’re firing up the grill in no time! There’s nothing quite like the smell of burgers on the BBQ, laughter in the garden, and a cheeky sing-song while we wait for the sausages to sizzle!

Here are a few of our classic BBQ truths:
🌂 Brollies at the ready — just in case the weather changes its mind (which it usually does!)
⏰ Be BBQ-ready at all times — the sun comes out fast, and we move faster!
🧴 Sun cream is a must, even if you’re only outside for “just 10 minutes”
🎤 And of course... there's always time for a sing-along or a dance while the grill’s going!
