If you are using a mobile phone to call please switch to WiFi calling and ensure your device is charged. This will help to prevent your call being disconnected. Some mobile providers disconnect calls due to network capacity demand. NHS 24 does not cut calls.

NHS 24's staff are working exceptionally hard to answer as many calls as we can, quickly and safely. Please be patient and we will answer. If you can try the above options first, it could save you time. We want to help you get the right care, in the right place. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’Š Immunosuppressants โ€“ When to Stop If Youโ€™re Unwell

If you take an immunosuppressant and become acutely unwell, you may need to miss your dose, especially if you have an infection or are prescribed antibiotics.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Always seek advice from your GP, specialist team, or specialist nurse before restarting.

๐Ÿšจ Stop your immunosuppressant and get medical advice if you have:

๐Ÿค’ Signs of infection
Fever or chills
Severe sore throat
New or worsening cough
Shortness of breath

๐Ÿ’Š If youโ€™re prescribed antibiotics
Immunosuppressants are often withheld until the infection has cleared and antibiotics are finished

Some antibiotics may interact โ€” always check before taking your dose

๐Ÿคข Severe sickness or diarrhoea
This can cause dehydration and affect how your body handles your medication

๐Ÿฉธ Other warning signs
Unusual bruising or bleeding
Severe mouth ulcers
Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)

๐Ÿฅ Hospital admission or surgery
Immunosuppressants are often stopped temporarily โ€” your hospital team will advise

โœ… Restarting your immunosuppressant

Only restart once you are feeling well and have been told it is safe by your healthcare team

๐Ÿ“ž When in doubt โ€“ donโ€™t take the dose and seek medical advice

๐Ÿ’™ Please share to help others who take immunosuppressant medicines

๐Ÿ”” Help us reduce missed appointments ๐Ÿ””

We appreciate that this is a very busy time of year for everyone. However, before 11am today we had 7 GP appointments and 2 nurse appointments where patients did not attend, equating to 130 minutes of lost clinical time.

Weโ€™re seeing an increase in patients not attending their face-to-face appointments. During the festive period, we have fewer appointments available, so missed slots mean other patients may not be able to be seen.

If you no longer need your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer it to someone else.

๐Ÿ“ฑ If you receive a text reminder, you can cancel easily by replying CANCEL.

Thank you for helping us care for our patients and make the best use of NHS appointments ๐Ÿ’™
