General information
OUR STORY Cha Mackay set up MACkrafts in 2017, which was around the time that he had to give up full time work to care for his disabled son, Kai. Kai was born with only three fingers and a shortened right forearm, he has had many operations to unweb his fingers also. Due to this, his Dad noticed that Kai was struggling to join in with his brother and friends when they were playing with plastic toy guns, he unfortunately couldn't hold them because of his disability and started to become increasingly agitated that he was unable to take part in the fun. This experience is what inspired his Dad to make Kai a personalised wooden gun with an extra handle so that he could play with his brother and his friends. Kai was also diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Unilateral Retinoblastoma, when he was just 1 year old. This type of cancer affecting only around 50 children are diagnosed in the UK each year. With this devastating diagnosis, Kai and his Dad, Cha, had to travel to Birmingham for tests and they were told that Kai had to get surgery to remove his eye in June 2014. The surgery, thankfully, was a huge success and Kai made a speedy recovery. The surgery was then followed by a long period of follow-up tests which were performed at a specialist centre in Birmingham. Kai then had an artificial eye fitted at a later date. Kai has recovered well and got the all clear from cancer. He is now a happy and healthy 6year old boy. He gets checks every 6 months to make sure it stays this way, however getting his eye removed saved his life. To find out more about Kai's journey, please visit his fundraising page below, which through the generosity of others, really helped Kai and Cha worry a little less during this already very difficult time. Through all of Kai's experiences, Cha had to give up full time work to care for his son. He then found a passion that helped Kai and so this passion is what drove Cha to create MACKrafts Bespoke Designs, which has now become a much loved family business.

Our Story
Cha Mackay set up MACkrafts in 2016, which was around the time that he had to give up full time work to care for his disabled son, Kai.
This is what inspired his Dad to make him a personalised wooden gun with an extra handle so that he could play with his brother and his friends. After noticing the positive impact this had on Kai, and realising how much Cha loved wood work, he decided to start selling some of his creations.
From then on, MACKrafts became a brand of its own and a much loved family business.
