Question: how do you do it all?

Answer: I don’t!

Here’s Henry with a tray of delicious home made Thai food for our weekend retreat guests.

We just celebrated our thirteenth wedding anniversary and he has given his permission for a rare sighting on social media so please join me in celebrating Henry and all he does behind the scenes to keep A Space to Be running smoothly!

Without him I probably wouldn’t even make it out of bed in the morning.

Thank you Henry!

As some of you already know my Facebook account was hacked and then disabled. I have not been able to retrieve access either to my personal account or the 'A Space to Be' business page.

I'm only able to post here via a clever trick with the instagram app, and I am not able to edit this page, receive messages or reply to comments.

Therefore, could I please ask you to like or comment on this post and then click on the link below to follow the new page:
https://www.facebook.com/aspacetobe.northumberland

Liking and commenting on this post will help ensure that everyone who follows THIS page sees the message and we are less likely to leave anyone behind.

It feels like a good time for a fresh start as we're feeling ready to leave the covid era behind and get back to basics with a new Autumn timetable of classes, workshops and retreats at our lovely studio.

I hope to see you there and on the new page!

Lucy

Some pictures from last Friday at .

I love teaching weekly classes and Restorative yoga workshops here every Friday morning.

We are taking a break for the summer now but classes will resume in September and the website has just been updated if you want to find out more and get involved.
http://aspacetobe.co.uk/shilbottlehall

There is also an opportunity to join me on Saturday 6 August for a whole day at the hall to deepen your practice and learn more about yoga.

Holistic Yoga Days are an opportunity to immerse yourself in a complete practice of active and restorative postures, seated breathing practices and meditation. Overall this is a restful and meditative experience based on the Eight Limbs of Yoga set out by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutra.

I had a great time connecting with friends old and new at the BWY North Festival.

Here are some pictures of my Guru and the words I shared in the first session:

"In the Spring, her sap is rising, leaves are budding and she is coloured with dense green leaves.

In Summer children gather around her, climbing into her boughs and leaping off into piles of straw.

In Autumn she starts to let go, her leaves drying up and falling away. She still stands proudly and her form is more clearly revealed.

Over the winter time my Guru Tree looks bare and quiet but I know that hidden out of sight are deep roots of belonging and the work of preparation for the Spring which is around the corner."

🌳

If you missed the festival but my posts about 'Yoga and the Environment' have been of interest please let me know.

I am planning an online version that will be put together as a home retreat. We'll meet by Zoom two or three times over the course of a day with time for getting out into nature in between. It will also be available as a recording to return to when needed.

Watch this space!

For my third and final session at the BWY Festival, I wish to acknowledge the presence of fear and anxiety as we navigate the particular challenges of our generation.

I'll be sharing practices which help us to self soothe and take refuge, to find sanctuary within ourselves. We'll lay down our bones and feel that Mother Earth herself has ‘got our backs’, but I'll also be asking:

‘have you got hers?’

In my second session for the BWY Festival we'll think about ethics and boundaries (asteya and brahmacarya). Boundaries enable us to conserve energy, be more efficient and remain accountable.

As the climate crisis becomes more real, and more present, there are very many ways in which we are being asked to conserve resources and uphold boundaries for the sake of our environment. But do we even know how to do that for ourselves, in our inner landscape?

Our practice will be simple but challenging with the intention to clear our 'rivers of prana' so that our own precious energy and inner resources can be conserved.

My first session at the BWY Festival on Sunday will be a rhythmic and cyclical ‘work-in’ based on the principles of ahiṃsā and satya.

I'll suggest that one way to deepen our relationship with the outer environment is by getting better acquainted with our inner environment.

If we practice non-harming and truthfulness on our yoga mats, in our inner ecosystem, might this flow outwards more effortlessly into our relationships with others and the planet?

Coming up this Sunday is the British Wheel of Yoga Northern Region Festival.

I will be there throughout the day teaching on the theme of 'Yoga and the Environment'.

Will you be there too? Please do let me know and come and say hello.

It's in North Shields and I do believe it's not too late to get a ticket (follow the link in bio or at the end of this post).

My sessions are inspired by nature but also by the five Yama from Patanjali's Yoga Sutra (YS2:30).

My posts this week will all be on this theme.

There’s a new (ish) post on our website about prāņayāma - the fourth limb of yoga.

https://aspacetobe.co.uk/summer-solstice-pranayama/

It is part of series of posts linked to gates, so for a bit of fun Henry and I turned this local gate into a model of Nāḍī Śodhana prāņayāma (alternate nostril breath).

I’ll be teaching variations of this practice on Sunday evening - it’s our seasonal Zoom yoga class that you are all warmly welcome to join…

Being in the Cycles - Solstice Spaciousness - Sunday 26 June - 8pm.

All welcome, honesty box payments.

Check website for registration link (you can click through from the prāņayāma blog linked above).

Summer Solstice is just around the corner, the 'longest day' for us here in the Northern hemisphere.

Join me right now for a slow, conscious breath.

Can you feel the fullness at the end of your inhalation before the breath turns around and starts to leave?

I think of that as the summer solstice of my breath. It is full, vibrant, spacious and buzzing with energy.

Our online yoga gathering for the summer solstice will also be vibrant and spacious and the theme is is the fourth limb of yoga - prāṇāyāma - which is all about breathing.

To mark the solstice itself I will once again be walking the labyrinth and, if the timings fit, I invite you join me.

If you have your own ritual to ground you in the cycles please do share in the comments!

Being in the Cycles - Summer Solstice

☀️Tuesday 21 June, 5pm - Labyrinth Walk at local beach
