You Are Not Alone...

A dementia diagnosis affects the whole family, not just the individual.

Behind the scenes, many carers are quietly juggling exhaustion, worry, changing routines and the emotional weight of supporting someone they love. It can feel overwhelming, isolating and difficult to know where to turn for help. But no one should have to face dementia alone.

At HospiceCare North Northumberland, we provide dementia cafés, walking football and wellbeing support for individuals and families living with dementia. Our services create safe, welcoming spaces where people can stay active, connect with others, share experiences and feel supported within their community.

Whether you need practical advice, emotional support or simply someone to talk to, we are here for you. To find out more about how we could help you can visit our website https://www.hospicecare-nn.org.uk/dementia-support-services or call us on 01665 606515 or 01289 309997.

Join us to help raise awareness for Dementia Action Week this

On the 22nd May we're hosting a Cup of Kindness at Berwick Garden Centre (TD15 2NS) from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Come along for delicious cake, artisan coffee, and a range of fundraising activities!

There will also be a short talk from our Dementia Care Nurse.

Why it matters: Nearly 1 million people in the UK are living with dementia, with many more impacted through family and friends. Greater awareness leads to earlier diagnosis, better support, and helps reduce isolation and stigma.

Taking part is a simple way to help build a more understanding and supportive community.

Tickets can be purchased: https://buytickets.at/hospicecarenorthnorthumberland/2190415

We hope to see you there.

This week is Dementia Action Week.

Across the week, we’ll be highlighting the importance of dementia awareness, recognising the signs, supporting carers and creating more understanding and compassionate communities for people living with dementia.

Today we're talking about - Spotting the Signs

Sometimes the signs of dementia can be easy to overlook at first, especially when they appear gradually in someone you love.

You might notice a loved one becoming more forgetful than usual, struggling to follow conversations, repeating themselves or finding it harder to complete familiar everyday tasks. They may seem confused about time or places, become withdrawn from social situations or experience changes in mood, confidence or behaviour.

While occasional forgetfulness can be a normal part of ageing, ongoing changes like these should not be ignored.

Recognising the signs early and seeking support can make a real difference. An early diagnosis can help individuals and families access the right treatment, guidance and support sooner, helping people live well for longer.

At HospiceCare North Northumberland, we’re here to support people living with dementia and the families around them with compassion, understanding and practical support every step of the way. We offer dementia cafés, seated exercise sessions, walking football and wellbeing support designed to reduce isolation and help people stay connected within their community.

To find out more about how we could help you can visit our website https://www.hospicecare-nn.org.uk/dementia-support-services or call us on 01665 606515 or 01289 309997.
