A huge thank you to Richard and Lorna for bringing such colour, creativity, and joy to one of our dementia cafés! Their body painting session was a brilliant way to get people involved, expressing themselves and having fun together.

Dementia Walking Football Shout-Out!

We’re putting out a fresh shout out to anyone who’d like to get moving, share a laugh, and be part of something genuinely special by joining our Dementia Walking Football sessions.

Our weekly dementia friendly walking football sessions, run in partnership with the Newcastle United Foundation, are all about gentle movement, friendship, and feeling included — with cake and a cuppa afterwards, of course! ☕🍰

Your presence could change this moment.

At our Bereavement Cafés people come just as they are to sit, to talk, or simply not to be alone. We’re looking for volunteers who can help make that space feel warm, safe, and human.

You don’t need special qualifications or the perfect words. If you can listen without judgement, share a cuppa, and offer quiet companionship, you could make a real difference to someone navigating grief.

Our cafés run two days per month in Alnwick and Berwick, and even an hour of your time can help someone feel seen, heard, and supported.

If you’ve ever known how much a simple conversation can mean, you’ll understand the impact of just being there for someone else.

Tweed & Threads, Berwick-upon-Tweed

Our beautiful Tweed & Threads store has had to pause opening for a short while as we take time to regroup and rebuild our volunteer team.

This shop has always been about more than clothes, it’s about community, connection, and supporting HospiceCare North Northumberland through every donation and every hour given. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported the store so far, and we’d love to see its doors open again very soon.

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, even for a few hours a week, now would mean the world. You’ll be joining a friendly, welcoming team and helping us raise vital funds that support free, specialist end of life care for local families when they need it most.

Looking for a gentle, supportive way to stay active while living with dementia?

Our Seated Exercise classes are designed for people living with a dementia diagnosis, with a focus on mobility, balance and coordination, all in a calm, welcoming environment.

These weekly, one-hour sessions take place every Wednesday from 11am–12pm in Alnwick and use simple, chair-based movements to help keep joints flexible, muscles active and circulation flowing. All exercises are done seated, making the class safe, accessible and confidence-boosting.

Sessions are usually followed by coffee and cake, offering time to relax, chat and connect with others in a friendly, supportive space.

✔ Free to attend
✔ Open to adults aged 18+
✔ For those living in our clinical catchment area and registered with a local GP

Veterans Awareness Accreditation - Update

In July last year we started working towards gaining Veterans Awareness Accreditation for all of our Hospice services.

As a County with a high concentration of Veterans in Alnwick, Berwick, Wooler and Seahouses we want to make sure that our Veterans can access our services. By working with other Veterans organisations, we can ensure that our services meet their specific needs.

We can do this by developing trauma informed therapeutic services across all our clinical areas in addition to signposting to other partner support services.

Work continues to gather pace as we work towards accreditation in addition to signing up to The Armed Forces Covenant.
