Wonderful post by East Cheshire Eye Society .Thank you for helping to raise awareness and for supporting people for whom, sadly, treatment has not been successful

Did you know diabetic retinopathy is one of the leading causes of vision loss among people with diabetes?

Diabetic retinopathy is an eye condition that affects the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Over time, high blood sugar can damage the tiny blood vessels in the retina, leading to blurred vision, dark spots and in severe cases, blindness.

The condition often develops without early symptoms, which is why regular eye checks are essential for anyone with diabetes. Early detection can help prevent or slow down vision loss.

East Cheshire Eye Society has put together a sight loss awareness guide explaining what it is and how it varies, you can download our free booklet here today: https://monkeylink.co/e16057

As part of your diabetic eye screening, we use eye drops called Tropicamide to gently dilate your pupils. This allows us to take clear photographs of the back of your eyes.

We ask that you 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, as your vision may be blurred for four to six hours afterwards. Your eyes may also be sensitive to bright light, so wearing sunglasses can help keep you comfortable after your visit.

If you have any questions or concerns, our admin team is always happy to help. Please call us on 01270 275523.
