This is a post about Alsager Round Table - we are struggling a bit and need your help so I'd appreciate 3 minutes of your time if you could spare it please🙏
Did you enjoy the Christmas Market and Light Switch On Event in Alsager last night?
Do you think the town's Christmas Lights are something to be proud of?
Maybe you took your kids to the Bonfire and Firework display at The Plough earlier in the month or perhaps took part in the carnival back in the summer... we hope you enjoyed those events too!
Do you know that those events, and others throughout the year, are organised by a team of men aged between 18 and 45 years old, who volunteer their time as members of Alsager Round Table?
Like most reading this, they are not particularly special men. They all work full time in a wide variety of vocations and most of them are family men with the exact same demands on their time that everyone else has and NONE of them came to Round Table knowing the first thing about how to licence and operate events like these, close roads or how to run a compliant charity!
The group exists to facilitate "the betterment of young men, in thought and work and deed" (in essence to further somebody's business development skills by contributing to their local community) so being a Round Table member is about learning new skills and networking as much as anything
It's not attached to any of the councils in any way and isn't political, religious, secretive or exclusive... but IT IS SMALL and we're worried that we may not be able to do the things we do if new members don't come forward😢
We are about to start our annual tour of the town with Santa and it's a great opportunity to get involved - this event is one of the most enjoyable of the year!
Obviously we'll provide all the training you need as well as collection tubs, hi vis vest and a pocket full of drumstick lollies for any kids you might meet
Volunteers can do as many or as few of the runs as they like. They'll play a part in raising thousands of pounds for the Charity and walk miles. They'll keep walking when the weather turns and they start to get cold and wet (because we don't cancel any of these events due to the weather - imagine the disappointment that would cause!) and they'll be thankful of those local residents that, by prior arrangement, stop the sleigh for a few minutes to supply mulled wine and mince pies to Santa's helpers. They'll also understand why we do what we do when they see groups of kids, dressed for bed, be totally unable to contain their excitement when they get their first sighting of the big man - this is something that those kids will never forget and it can be emotional
If you're a man, aged 18-45 and interested in finding out more, the first step is to go to the Alsager Round Table page and send them a message... you'll be answered quickly and we'll take it from there!
Thank you for your time, we do need some new members if we're to keep these traditions alive 🙏
