'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the shire,
Not a creature could hear—not the crackle of fire.
The stockings were hung, the tree lights aglow,
But waxy old ears muffled carols and snow!

Santa slid down with a jolly old cheer,

Myth Busting: Should we use cotton buds or Q-tips to clean our ears?
The answer is no, for these reasons:

1. They push wax deeper
Instead of removing earwax, cotton buds often push it further into the ear canal, compacting it. This can lead to:
* Blockages
* Reduced hearing
* Pain or pressure

2. Risk of injury
The ear canal and eardrum are delicate. Using cotton buds can cause:
* Scratches or cuts in the canal
* Infection from damaged skin
* Perforated eardrum (which can cause hearing loss and severe pain)

3. They disrupt the ear’s natural cleaning system
Your ears are self-cleaning. The skin in the ear canal moves outward naturally, bringing wax with it. Cotton buds interfere with this process.

4. They can cause chronic problems
Repeated use can lead to:
* Chronic wax build-up
* Ear infections
* Tinnitus (ringing)
* Hearing issues

5. Wax isn't dirty — it’s protective
Earwax traps dust, debris, and bacteria, preventing them from reaching deeper structures. Removing too much wax leaves ears more prone to infection.

A little earwax is normal and protective. Too much earwax can lead to many problems which is why you may need it removed correctly.

Earwax build-up is a very common issue — and often more bothersome than people realise. This was the amount of wax removed from one persons ear. Hearing was fully restored immediately after.

A few things you might notice when earwax starts to cause problems:
🔸 Muffled or reduced hearing�🔸 Itching or discomfort in the ear�🔸 Earache or a feeling of fullness�🔸 Tinnitus (ringing or buzzing)�🔸 Dizziness in some cases

Earwax is perfectly normal and actually protects your ears… but when it builds up too much, it can cause real disruption to your daily life.

🧼 What doesn’t help?�– Cotton buds (they push wax further in!)�– Ear candles (unsafe and ineffective)�– Ignoring symptoms and hoping they’ll pass
