Post-hospital syndrome: an overlooked stage of recovery

Leaving hospital does not always mean full recovery. Many patients experience a temporary period of increased vulnerability known as post-hospital syndrome.

During this time, the risks of falls, infections, and readmission are higher. This is not only due to the original condition, but also to the effects of the hospital stay itself. Disrupted sleep, reduced nutrition, inactivity, and stress can all affect resilience.

Key points for awareness:

Post-hospital syndrome is an acquired condition, not a continuation of the original illness.

It can affect both older and younger patients, although older adults are often at greater risk.

Families and carers can help by encouraging rest, ensuring safe surroundings, and monitoring medications carefully.

By recognising the impact of post-hospital syndrome, communities and healthcare professionals can better support recovery and reduce avoidable complications.

Sian and Lisa visit Move Altrincham! 🌟
We were thrilled to visit Trafford Leisure Move Altrincham, an inspiring new facility supported by Sport England and delivered by Trafford Leisure Centre on behalf of Trafford Council.
Move Altrincham marks a major milestone in Trafford’s commitment to providing modern, inclusive and sustainable leisure services for everyone.
💧 The centre is a true wellness-focused destination, designed with accessibility at its heart. It includes innovative features like pool pods to make getting into the pool easier for everyone, and a Changing Places toilet – a first for Altrincham town centre – ensuring all visitors can enjoy the facilities comfortably.
🧠💦 We’re especially excited about the new dementia-friendly swimming sessions, created to enhance the experience for people living with dementia and their carers. With a qualified teacher on hand, these sessions help remove barriers and make swimming a relaxing, enjoyable and inclusive experience for all.
🕥 Sessions take place every Wednesday at 10:30am – a wonderful opportunity to stay active, connect, and enjoy the water in a supportive environment.

👏 Huge congratulations to everyone involved in bringing Move Altrincham to life – a fantastic step forward for inclusive, community-driven wellness in Trafford!

Flu & Cold Season Awareness 🤧

Colds and flu are common this time of year, but there are small steps we can all take to stay healthy:

✅ Wash your hands often with soap and water
✅ Keep shared surfaces clean
✅ Eat nourishing meals and drink plenty of fluids
✅ Wrap up warmly when heading out
✅ Rest well and listen to your body

If you’re feeling unwell, try to limit contact with others, especially those who may be more vulnerable. Looking out for each other helps keep our communities well. 💜
