❓Lots of people still ask how the Starlight Express Early Gender DNA Blood Test works and if there is any danger to the pregnancy 🤰🏾

💉It works just like any blood test, with a single draw of blood from a pregnant lady's vein, meaning there is no risk of harm to the lady or the pregnancy. 🤰🏼

It is available from just SIX weeks into pregnancy and we offer the test on its own or alongside an early pregnancy scan.

The sample is sent off to the lab via Royal Mail who get very busy at this time of year. 📮

So we advise anyone wanting the test results before Christmas, please allow extra time for your sample to arrive. The lab will be open until Christmas Eve before reopening on Monday 29th December 2025. 📅

Of course you have to be at least SIX weeks pregnant for the test but we do still offer gender scans from as early as 13 weeks so you can attend for a scan right up to Christmas Eve to find out gender from a scan.

Your baby’s heartbeat is recorded and saved onto a device that goes inside the teddy, which makes a lovely keepsake as well as a great gift idea for mums, dads, siblings and grandparents.

You can also book an appointment to have baby’s heartbeat recorded without having an ultrasound scan.

It’s FIVE weeks until Christmas Day

We’ve got Festive Gender Reveals available with the Hale clinic open up to Tuesday 23rd Dec and the Bury clinic open up to Wednesday 24th Dec with the booking system showing our real-time availability.

All other gender scans can be booked online in the normal way.

If you won’t be at least 13 weeks by Christmas Eve but want a Christmas gender reveal, you can still book the Starlight Express Early Gender Blood test the week before.

Why are some people so mean? And quick to leave a 1* review without actually experiencing the service they’d booked for?

This gentleman is unhappy because his wife was told by her doctor that she didn’t need the blood test they had booked at Starlight AFTER she had arrived at the clinic for her appointment - and as a result wasn’t entitled to a refund of the deposit paid to secure the appointment or use it to book a new appointment!

There’s not much we can do about this one except reply to him (which we have done) and ensure all the other reviews reflect the high levels of care and professionalism you can expect at Starlight.

So if you’ve had a positive experience at Starlight in Bury and haven’t yet left a review on Google, we’d be grateful if you’d take a minute to leave a review and drown out the negativity!

Many people assume all ultrasound scanning companies, particularly those offering pregnancy scans, are medical facilities. Starlight Ultrasound is different and is a diagnostic imaging clinic and private midwife clinic which means professional healthcare and medically trained staff.

Starlight is behind calls for greater regulation of sonography / ultrasound.

The Society of Radiographers (SoR) is concerned about the risk of unsuitable people carrying out ultrasound scans, citing various examples of bad practice and dangerous advice given out as reasons for stronger regulation.

This comes up as a newsworthy item every now and again but unfortunately nothing comes of it.

Whilst a clinic itself may be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and may even be owned or managed by a qualified practitioner, the person carrying out the scan may still not be sufficiently trained, qualified and experienced.

In these cases, the same concerns apply.

All clinics offering ultrasound should already be registered with the CQC and it is illegal to operate otherwise.

However the SoR is right to suggest pregnant women check reviews of private clinics and ask their midwife or GP for a recommendation to a private pregnancy ultrasound scan.

Suffice to say Starlight only ever employs fully qualified medical professionals.
