Mental health is more than a small part of our lives – it’s every moment of every day. It’s a hard day’s work and a catch-up with friends. It’s when you become a parent and the day you lose someone you love. It’s the times you reach out for support and the years you spend on a waiting list. It’s the fight for a mental health system that works and hospitals that are safe.

Mental health matters on the days when everything happens and the days when nothing happens. When life is busy and unpredictable and when it’s quiet and ordinary too. That’s why we fight every day, to support more people tomorrow.

10th October is World Mental Health Day, but we want everyone to understand that mental health is important every day. Together we can make sure everyone sees it that way.

Hearing loss is a normal part of aging but it can affect your mental well-being. Communication is such a key aspect of everyday life. Struggling with this can make people feel frustrated, embarrassed, anxious, isolated and depressed. Wearing a hearing aid can greatly help with socialising and combating isolation.

Hearing aids are programmed for you individual needs. The aim is to amplify quiet sounds you would normally struggle to hear but not amplify the loud noises that you have no troubles with. As long your hearing aids are programmed correctly by the audiologist, the amplification should cause zero damage to your hearing.

Another thing to consider is that most people experience changes to their hearing in both ears, but some people buy only one hearing aid due to the cost, which can mean the other ear overcompensates and deteriorates as a result. We always check both ears to guarantee we provide a balanced solution for you and your ears.

If you're interested in learning more about how hearing aids can benefit your life visit our website to read more, or book an appointment for a hearing assessment to discuss your options with our audiologist. You can book with us on 0161 989 1288 or via our website.

At your hearing assessment we'll get started with a consultation, asking a few questions about your hearing and overall wellbeing. We’ll build up a picture of where you may be having difficulty hearing (such as when watching TV or if you have trouble following a conversion when there is background noise).

The hearing assessment then consists of a series of tests which allow us to understand more about your level of hearing loss and ear health. Your audiologist will perform each test, explaining the process as you go, this includes examination of the ear and auditory canal, video otoscopy and full audiometric hearing assessment including speech audiometry.

Once all tests are completed, we’ll discuss your results with you. We’ll fully explain what each result means and provide impartial advice on the most appropriate hearing system for your personal needs.

If, as a result of your hearing test, we recommend wearing a hearing aid, we’ll be able to show you appropriate devices for a range of budgets. As we are entirely independent, we stock a wide selection of devices from a number of highly regarded brands. All of our products come with a free trial and 60-day money-back guarantee.

To book you can ring us on 0161 989 1288 or book via our website.

Communicating effectively with people with hearing loss is so important, here's a top tip to help.

Be careful not to over exaggerate your lip movements, facial expressions and gestures. Excessive lip movements and facial expressions can make it difficult to lip read and gestures can be distracting, only making it harder to understand.

If you're struggling with hearing loss yourself you can book in with us for a hearing assessment on 0161 989 1288 or via our website.

Hearing aid maintenance is key to keeping your devices working
properly and delivering clear, consistent sound. It involves regular cleaning, battery replacement or charging, and storing them in a dry
environment.

Staying consistent with maintenance not only extends the life of your hearing aids but also ensures a smoother, more reliable hearing experience every day.

Rumour has it that our ears continue to grow our whole lives. The truth is that they do not literally grow in adulthood, but they do naturally sag due to aging and gravity. This makes them bigger, and appear as if they have grown.

World Alzheimer's Month takes place every September and World Alzheimer's Day is on 21 September each year. It's a global opportunity to raise dementia awareness and support people affected by the disease.

We want to spread awareness to the link between hearing loss and dementia. There is a clear link, although it has not yet been fully explained, studies have shown that hearing loss is one of the twelve main factors that leads to the highest risk of developing Alzheimer's, and other dementias. Hearing loss may also be one of the early symptoms of it. It does not mean that someone with hearing loss will go on to develop dementia – just that their risk is higher.

It's really important for your health in general to get your hearing tested, and this includes helping to reduce the risk of dementia. Where hearing loss is present the use of hearing aids may reduce the risk, by slowing cognitive decline.

If you think you are suffering from hearing loss you can book a hearing assessment with us on 0161 989 1288 or book via our website.
