Richard is at the Scottish Parliament today and tomorrow helping Optometry Scotland promote the need for a community low vision service. Currently patients with low vision are on long waiting lists for hospital appointments to get magnifiers and aids that could dramatically improve their quality of life. If opticians could provide this service in the community it would dramatically reduce their wait time and free up the hospital to see other patients.

The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the role of community optometry, local access to NHS-funded eye care, and how practices support patients in their communities.
