Liam Lewis Yoga

Liam Lewis Yoga Liam Lewis (PhD) teaches private and small group yoga in and around Worcestershire and Warwickshire. Liam found dynamic yoga styles through training in dance.

Liam Lewis (PhD) is available to book for private lessons or small groups.* We tailor classes to suit your needs, whether it be foundation or intermediate level fast-flow classes (ashtanga and vinyasa), or traditional yoga (hatha), inversions, and breathing techniques (pranayama). He began practicing the ashtanga series fifteen years ago, enjoying the physical, powerful nature of the exercise and the breath and movement synchronicity. Liam began teaching classes in 2011. Liam undertook training with Ervin Menyhart over a three year period and completed his Teacher Training course in September 2011. He also took an intensive Teacher Training course with Mark Freeth, officially recognised by Yoga Alliance UK, and has studied with James Critchlow in Birmingham and Richard Freeman from the US. Liam has been to Calgary in Canada on numerous occasions to train with Norman Sjoman, author of 'Yoga Tradition of the Mysore Palace', 1996.

* Classes cost £40 /hour per person. Lesson rates are flexible for people on low income, including students.

This may be of interest to those thinking/worried about national objectives to organise and categorise yoga practice in law:

-----------------------------------

Dear Members and Supporters,

News from YHET
After a failed attempt 12 years ago, a second attempt is being made to create a National Occupational Standard (NOS) for yoga teaching by Skills Active who develop standards, qualifications and frameworks within the seven categories of sport, fitness, hair, beauty, play work, outdoor and caravanning.

Yoga is not and never will be a sport and standardisation under an organisation that works with sport and fitness is totally inappropriate and will destroy the essence and diversity of yoga. Our full objections to the proposed NOS for Yoga, can be found here in a document produced by YHET Trustee June Skeggs and fully endorsed by all the other YHET Trustees.

What too, of the current qualifications held by yoga teachers? Last time Skills Active tried to introduce NOS for Yoga, many teachers ended up unnecessarily spending hundreds of pounds to do a course offered by the organisation that was given the label 'governing body of yoga' by Sport England fearing that otherwise they would no longer be able to teach in sports and leisure centres.

Please have a look at our detailed case against Skills Active's proposals in the above link and if you agree with us we would encourage you to register your objection by adding your name to the online petition against the proposal which you can find here.

Here is the comment of one of the signatories which sums up the whole thing perfectly:

"Setting a NOS will limit the wonderful diversity of ancient and evolving practices we can choose from today. (how about saying the only pet a family can have is a cat.. the only valid cat is a ginger cat.. and the only place you can buy a cat is the British Wheel of Felines, or the Feline Alliance... no-one would accept that would they?"

We hope that you wish to add your name to the petition,

Paul Blissett

Trustee

Please refrain from infringing the human rights of Yoga practitioners to practice and share their practice by instituting the entirely inappropriate 'National Occupational Standard for A Yoga Teacher'. Yoga is not in your brief.

Thanks to WYC for a great year. Let's have another good one next year!
