Christopher Baker, our founder and chairman, has always had a love of trees and when his father passed the land at Earthcott Green to him he began to plant trees.
From the age of about thirty, Christopher began to attend funerals and was disappointed by the accepted norm; the clinical, workman-like funeral directors and impersonal, rushed services. He felt that there had to be a better way to mark a death and realised that he would far rather have a gathering in a private space, be interred in a field and have a tree planted over him.
The solution was concieved with the creation of Memorial Woodlands. Here was a provision where trees could be planted to more than one purpose, where friends and family could pay their respects in a personal and private way and where a life could be celebrated and remembered in a service appropriate to the deceased.
