From the roof above our heads to every time we take a tea break, Kelsick Grammar is designed to tread lighter on the planet 💚
Sustainability is not an add-on here, it is literally built into the fabric of the building and woven through our day-to-day.
In the building, we have:
• Sheep’s wool insulation throughout the existing building, including the roof void, to keep things naturally warm and cosy.
• Fully insulated extensions designed for solar gain, with windows that maximise natural light and reduce the need for heating.
• Solar panels that generate around 20% of our energy on site.
• Energy-efficient boilers and low energy LED lighting fitted throughout to cut our energy use.
• Lime plaster on the existing walls so the building can breathe and last longer.
• A sedum roof, creating a mini habitat for insects and bird life while soaking up rainwater and reducing surface run-off.
• Attenuation tanks in the car park to slow heavy rainfall and help prevent flooding.
Day to day, we keep the green thinking going:
• Greywater is used to flush our toilets.
• A fell water storage tank on the hill collects water that can be used for vehicle washing.
• A working wormery on site turns things like teabags into nutrient-rich compost instead of waste.
So when you book a desk or a meeting room at Kelsick Grammar, you are choosing a space that supports your work and respects the landscape around us. 🫶
