Welcoming Autumn is a little bittersweet - after a glorious Summer of sunshine, the Lakes truly come into their own at this time of year.

As the colours turn and the days draw in, our commutes are rewarded with luminous sunrises and copper-toned sunsets. And with the cooler air, we’re often treated to spectacular cloud inversions drifting over Ambleside and Windermere.

The weather brings a new mood to the Lake District - rain and rainbows, mizzle and magic - and from Kelsick Grammar we get a front-row seat. The Lakeland fells frame every meeting, coffee break and lunchtime wander.

As our Office & Facilities Manager, she’ll show you around, get your room set, check the tech, keep the brews topped up and the good biscuits coming.

She handles bookings, logistics and the little details you don’t see - so you can focus on the work that matters.

On the first Wednesday of the month, the Cumbria Women In Business Network cars start to arrive. We’re at the door with a hello and a smile - number plates noted, coats hung and a quick walk through to Snarky Moss End.

Inside, the little things are already handled: the coffee machine's warmed up, teas topped up, screens on, IT checks complete. In the break, a healthy breakfast or light lunch appears and the smell of fresh pastries drive us all crazy.

Then we fade into the background, so the Women in Business Network team can do what they do best - support, connect and share. If everything feels effortless, that’s by design.

Massive congratulations to everyone who took part in the Impact Force4Good – Global Adventure Challenge this weekend 🌍

On the 13th–14th September our Impact team took on something truly incredible. Starting from our global HQ at Kelsick Grammar in Ambleside at 6am on Saturday, colleagues from across the world joined together to cover 160km across the Lake District – by running, cycling, swimming, kayaking, skiing, paddleboarding and even climbing! 💪

It’s not just a test of endurance – it’s all in aid of something close to our hearts. Every year, Impact staff volunteer their time to run a children’s holiday for disadvantaged young people in Cumbria.

The funds raised from this weekend will help us continue to make that holiday a reality – giving local kids an experience they’ll never forget.

A huge thank you goes to everyone involved in the planning and logistics of this challenge – and especially to Andy Dickson for leading the way. 🙌

📚✨ A Look Back at Kelsick Grammar School ✨📚

Did you know that Kelsick Grammar School in Ambleside traces its roots back to 1723, when local benefactor John Kelsick left money in his will to provide education for the children of the town?

For over two centuries, the school stood as a pillar of learning in the Lake District, shaping generations of young people. In its early years, it offered a classical grammar school education, teaching Latin, Greek, and mathematics. Later, it adapted to the needs of the community, balancing tradition with modern education.

Today, the former school buildings have taken on a new life as the home of Impact International, a global leadership development organisation; carrying forward the site’s legacy of learning, growth, and opportunity. It is also home to Force Cafe Ambleside.

In 1965, Kelsick Grammar’s students moved when it merged with Windermere Grammar School and the Old College to form The Lakes School.
