Come back down to earth, go to ground, put your hands in the soil, wriggle your toes in the grass, breathe in the wider world.

Balasana, childโs pose, is so nourishing because it asks you to surrender your weight and your mind back to earth. The hips are wide letting the belly hang softly, the toes are touching creating a sweet energy circuit, the arms can be outstretched or by your side relaxing the shoulders, the spine is elongated, lengthening, while the lungs stretch the back of the ribs deliciously, enjoying the deeper volume of oxygen they can contain in this position. Thereโs something so sane about resting your forehead to the floor. What does the earth want? What does your earthly body need? How much calmer is the mind when connected to the earth herself? How tender is it to remember we are a child of the earth? That we can take a pause, that we can become humble, as in close to the earth (humble from hummus Latin for earth), before rising again and continuing with our day with a new perspective and a remembrance of deep support.

Would you like to take a childโs pose?
