Are baristas better trained than dementia care staff? 🤔
According to new research from the Alzheimer’s Society, dementia training across the sector is still falling short.
With around 1 million people living with dementia in the UK (rising to 1.4 million by 2040), skilled, confident care has never been more important.
Yet:
• 50% of training is just 1–2 hours
• Only 39% meets recommended standards
• Over half of staff start with no dementia training
• 81% of carers want more
At Ashridge, we’re proud to do things differently. With our dedicated in-house trainer, Susie, we ensure our carers have the tools they need to provide the very best support. It doesn’t stop with our team — we also support families and the wider community through:
✅ Dementia support workshops delivered by experienced dementia specialists
✅ Dementia Friends sessions led by trained Dementia Friends Ambassadors
✅ Our monthly Memory Cafés, supported by a trained volunteer team
