Today is World Sepsis Day.
Sepsis is a life-threatening reaction to an infection. It happens when the immune system overreacts to an infection and starts to damage the body’s own tissues and organs.
It can be hard to spot, so know the symptoms.
Think S.E.P.S.I.S in adults:
S – Slurred speech/confusion
E – Extreme shivering/muscle pain
P – Passing no urine in a day
S – Severe breathlessness
I – It feels like you are going to die
S – Skin mottled or discoloured
And T.I.M.E in children:
T - Temperature — higher or lower than normal
I - Infection — signs and symptoms of an infection
M - Mental decline — sleepy, difficult to rouse, confused
E - Extremely ill — severe pain, discomfort, shortness of breath
