We are very happy to announce that we have been officially certified as an โActive Practiceโ by the Royal College of GPs ๐คฉ
Physical inactivity is linked to 1 in 6 deaths in the UK as it is a known risk factor for conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, depression, and some cancers.
Evidence shows that brief advice from a GP can increase physical activity levels by up to 49%๐โโ๏ธ
Being an Active Practice means we have proven our commitment to taking practical steps to:
1. Encourage physical activity among patients
2. Support staff to be more active
3. Create a healthier practice environment
The charter focuses on five main areas:
1. Creating a practice environment that supports physical activity e.g. posters, leaflets, and conversations about the benefits of being active.
2. Making physical activity a routine part of conversations with patients
3. Supporting staff to be more active. Encouraging walking meetings, cycle-to-work schemes, or activity challenges.
4. Partnering with local physical activity providers and referring patients to community walks, gyms, or exercise programs.
5. Reducing sedentary behaviour by promoting simple changes like standing desks or regular breaks from sitting.
