🎉Very pleased to say I have passed my Pregnancy yoga and Antenatal education courses and am now qualified to teach these subjects!

I’m currently studying postnatal yoga for mums and babies, due to finish by the end of the year.

I can’t wait to fully launch these courses / classes in the new year in my local area and via zoom

Being able to support women, their partners and their babies makes me so happy!

✨Being overdue is very common

✨Especially with your first baby, so relax and don’t worry.

✨Only 5% of babies are born on their due date

✨There’s a lot to be said for doing nothing, resting, relaxing, switching off and your body and baby will know what to do when the time comes...

✨So why bother with pregnancy yoga?

There’s so many reasons why!

A lot of women find yoga for the first time when pregnant.

Here’s a few reasons why it’s so amazing...

- Have a great nights sleep after a class

- Help to relieve any aches and ailments, each class I teach I adapt to every individual to make sure there is something in there for everyone.

- Some common aches and ailments I can help with include:

✨Heartburn
✨Back ache
✨Leg cramps
✨Swollen hands and feet
✨Headaches

- A lovely space to meet other women when face to face classes start in August

- A safe space to share whatever you need to, you are always seen, heard and acknowledged

- Time for yourself to feel present in the moment and to connect with baby

- Each class finishes with a 20 minute relaxation, get cosy under a blanket and enjoy drifting off to that place between wake and sleep

There’s so many reasons why pregnancy yoga is so beneficial but they are a few of the main ones!

Now that the weather is finally getting warming it's important that you keep an eye on your baby for signs of overheating.

Feel your baby’s chest or the back of their neck (your baby’s hands and feet will usually be cooler, which is normal). If your baby’s skin is hot or sweaty, remove one or more layers of bedclothes or bedding.

✨OXYTOCIN✨

The love hormone! The most important hormone in the birthing process!

It’s the driving force between every labour contraction and works so well to get things moving.

What are some of the things you can you do to make sure it flows during labour?

- Dim lights / darkness
- Having a quiet space
- Relaxing music
- Cuddles
- Massage
- Warmth
- Feeling safe
- Be comfortable (cushions, blankets)
- Privacy
- Fairy lights

We need oxytocin to have effective contractions - this will help to push baby down and out.

It’s a great idea to think about how you will get oxytocin flowing before labour starts and to also discuss with your birth partner so they can help with this too!

It’s so important to get Oxytocin high to keep adrenaline out of your birthing bubble!

✨Throw back to sunnier days✨

I’ve been a bit quiet the last week or so, I haven’t been feeling 100% and I’ve been busy working / studying / planning my face to face classes for later in the summer!

My website and booking system will be coming soon, which is really exciting stuff!

LushTums Pregnancy yoga, postnatal mum and baby yoga and antenatal education courses will all be available from August / September time!

Life suddenly seems super busy again with everything opening back up and plans being made, anyone else feeling slightly overwhelmed?

Having said that we are really looking forward to a weekend away this week to celebrate the wedding of our friends! Childfree! I’m looking forward to a quiet care journey and a lie in on Sunday 😂

💕🥳 New Podcast Episode out today!

Clare and Clair speak to Tina Mason, Head Physiotherapist and owner of Brighton Physiotherapy Clinic. She shares her brilliant knowledge about what women need to know about their pelvic floor. We talk about the importance of getting a new mummy check - even if it is years after having a baby - and discuss the lack of understanding around our postnatal bodies and why jumping straight into high impact exercise following birth may not be the best thing. This is a must listen for anyone who has questions about the pelvic floor and trampolining! Oh sneeze wees, or hangy downy feelings... oh yes, these are things!!

✨What is delayed cord clamping?- Delayed cord clamping means that doctors don't immediately clamp and cut the umbilical ...
19/05/2021

✨What is delayed cord clamping?

- Delayed cord clamping means that doctors don't immediately clamp and cut the umbilical cord. Instead, they allow extra time for the blood in the cord and placenta to flow to the baby.

- NICE guidance recommends that cord clamping is delayed in all maternity units for at least 1-5 minutes in all babies.

✨Why is delayed cord clamping recommended?

- Delayed cord clamping allows the blood from the placenta to continue being transferred to the baby even after they are born. This means that the baby could receive up to 214g of cord blood, which is about 30% more blood than they would have without it.

✨The benefits of this include:

- increased iron levels in the baby even up until they are six months old which helps with growth and both physical and emotional development.

- increased amount of stem cells, which helps with your baby’s growth and helps with their immune system.

All really good stuff! It’s pretty standard practice now, for all births (vaginal and caesarean) unless there is a medical reason!

Awww♥️

Do you know that feeling when you wake up in the middle of the night and it’s cold and your nappy feels heavy. And there are so many strange sounds all around you, and it’s dark and scary. And you get a hit in your head and it’s your hand that’s on its own adventure. And you can’t control it at all and it flings itself around and scratches your face and pulls at your hair.

And your legs start kicking off the duvet, even though you’re cold as it is and you try to make it stop but they have their own will. And so you’re lying there completely helpless with flailing limbs that want to do everything, but none of the things you want.

And you can’t find mum. And you call for her and you find yourself feeling really scared. What if your beloved mum doesn’t come for you. You can’t imagine anything worse and you start to cry because you miss her so terribly. You have never felt as alone as this very moment.

And then she is suddenly there. Standing right by your bed and looking at you with worry and love. And she is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen. And you grin up at her with happiness and relief. You don’t think you’ve ever felt as happy as this very moment.

And she picks you up and holds you close. And she smells like herself, and also a bit like you. Like milk and safety and love. And it’s the best smell in the whole entire world.

And she is warm and safe and soft and her hands caress you and she feeds you and hums your favourite tune. And you love her voice. You’ve known it far longer than you’ve really known her. It has lulled you to sleep and made you laugh and calmed you when you were distressed. It is the most beautiful voice in the whole entire world.

And you get to lie right up against her and you feel your entire body start to warm up again. And your still cold hand starts stroking her and moves up towards her neck and accidentally scratches her. Stupid uncontrollable hand. But mum doesn’t get angry. She takes your stupid hand in hers and it turns all warm again. And this is the best feeling in the world. Right here in mummy’s arms, with your hand in hers. Even the nappy doesn’t feel as horrible anymore.

And you feel your eyes getting heavy and you know that everything is okay now cause mummy is here. Your mum. Your wonderful, incredible mum who always looks after you. Night and day.
You look up at her one last time before you fall asleep. She looks tired and her eyes are closed, and yet she is still the most magnificent thing you know. How amazing that she wants to sit here with you in this moment. How amazing that she will always sit with you for a bit when you need her to.

You smile to yourself. How lucky you were that she became your mum. The most perfect mum anyone could have asked for.

You knew, even before you saw her, that she would be the best thing in the world.

Oh how you love her. Your mum.❤️

✨Siblings meeting for the first time!

Here’s my two during their first meeting.

My eldest found it very overwhelming, she was very excited and then quickly started to feel huge emotions...

Here’s a few things that I found really helpful and want to pass on to other parents...

- Let your eldest child bond with your bump, encourage them to talk to the baby, sing songs, rub your belly

- Positive language surrounding the new baby arriving

- Encourage them to help with little things to get them involved, children love a sense of responsibility!

- A little gift from the baby is a lovely thing to do and will be greatly received. Olive gave Ivy a ‘big sister mouse’ which she still loves!

- A special box or bag of different toys when you are feeding the baby to keep the eldest entertained and have some different to play with! This can be exciting for them

Do you have any tips for introducing siblings?! I’d love to hear them!

Exactly this...

I go through the importance of breathing and breathing practices in my antenatal education and pregnancy yoga classes.

It is so important to BREATHE!

Especially during labour and birth...

It helps to calm
Keeps your nervous system at ease
It will keep you focused
It will send lots of oxygen to the uterus
