What are we to be left if it all gets approved..??

The raised Speedway Consortium field is deemed safe (for now), and might get improved if it eventually becomes the only remaining public parkland. (Land is currently rough and uneven and little used). The top site originally supposed to be for cycle use got abandoned. A rumour once circulated that the DMU might take over the overgrown circuit from the Consortium.

That leaves the land from the Matalan store across to the Beaumont Leys Lane roundabout, and all up for development consideration ("employment opportunities"). This part of the park has a wooded area, the bmx track (centre), and a small wildlife pond. It is not known at this stage if they intend to keep these under the plan. The tarmacced path proves a nice walk for people wanting to come from the edge of Mowmacre, to the Beaumont Shopping Centre. It is hoped this would stay.

The development threat also covers the grass lands up to the Speedway/NHS car park. Access for cars and other vehicles for the possible business units was not made clear on the 2020 proposal, but there is scope for a new road off Leycroft Rd and/or Beaumont Way

A date has been set for our first walk, but more days and times to follow and hopefully move further afield if interested.

The first walk is mainly about a starting point to see how we go, meet new people etc so it’ll be very relaxed & friendly.

I’ll be adding an afternoon walk & a weekend walk too so keep an eye out 🙂
