February saw the end of season checks start for our working and sporting gun dogs. We highlight the treatment of these athletes because of the work they do - whether in training or out on the fields and hills, the demands on their bodies is huge.
End of season checks focus on muscle and soft tissue fatigue. Proper soft tissue sessions help to ease tired muscles, aid recovery and highlight any work related issues that can be carefully dealt with before next season. A good recovery is key to a good new season.
Pre Season - we always recommend a break for our working dogs, a bit of down time before starting the conditioning phase of pre season. Pre season involves looking at imbalances during the dogs most “bare” phase and correcting or strengthening these. We work on targeted treatments and exercises to help develop strength, coordination and resilience. Owners are working on steadying and fitness.
Season work involves check ups and supportive treatments to minimise injury and aid recovery. Late season can see cold, wet weather with thick cover and difficult conditions so it can be a period where tired dogs are more prone to injury in undergrowth and the ground can become more hazardous, causing soft tissue injuries.
We are proud of our working and sporting community and the care they take of their very special dogs.
