Take a look at our therapy room photo - how many socks can you find?

The campaign helps to raise awareness of Down Syndrome and serves as a reminder that the Down Syndrome community has a voice, and has something to say.

Down Syndrome (or Trisomy 21) is a condition in which a person has an extra chromosome. This is why World Down Syndrome Day is held on 21st March every year.

Find out more here: https://www.worlddownsyndromeday.org/lots-of-socks-campaign/

As Speech and Language Therapists, we support individuals with Down Syndrome enabling them to become confident members of society and lead inclusive lives.

Today is Swallowing Awareness Day which is a time to raise awareness of how Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) help people living with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.

Eating, drinking and swallowing is an essential part of most people’s day and is often taken for granted, but for some people it is not that easy. Eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties, also known as dysphagia, can affect a person’s quality of life and can lead to other health complications. This is why SLTs have a pivotal role in this area.

Ahead of Swallowing Awareness Day next week, we had a great CPD session on Cervical Ausculation - a technique used to support the diagnosis of swallowing difficulties.

Happy World Book Day!

As speech and language therapists, we understand the importance of books to the development of children. Sharing books from an early age helps build language skills, sparks imagination, and supports emotional development.

Books and stories can be used in many different ways depending on the needs of the child. This versatility allows the enjoyment of books to be inclusive, and far reaching.

Whether it's reading using an Eye Gaze, sensory stories, picture books, or more complex books - stories can be enjoyed by many.
