Practices have recently seen a rise in requests for Fit Notes (MED3) to support school absences. However, Fit Notes are intended for employed individuals and not for school-aged children. Parents or guardians are responsible for excusing their child from school, and their note should suffice.

Children with long-term conditions under specialist care may be assessed by the specialist if needed. For missed exams due to illness, medical certificates are not required—schools can provide supporting statements, and exam boards accept this.

Requests for letters as school absence evidence are considered private, non-NHS services and may incur a fee.

🧴🌞 UV Safety Month | 1–31 July 🌞🧴

With how warm it is at the moment, let's shine a spotlight on protecting our skin and eyes from harmful UV rays—whether you're out enjoying the UK sunshine or on holiday abroad.

Why it matters:
Sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer—and this isn't just on holiday. You can burn even on cloudy days in the UK

Top NHS sun safety recommendations:
✅ Stay in the shade when the sun is strongest—11 am to 3 pm (March–October in the UK)
✅ Cover up with clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and UV-blocking sunglasses
✅ Use sunscreen SPF 30+ with at least 4-star UVA protection
✅ Apply 6–8 teaspoons of sunscreen for full-body coverage, 30 minutes before going outside, and reapply every 2 hours or after swimming or sweating

Extra tips:
👶 Babies under 6 months: keep them out of direct sun
🧒 Children: dress, shade, and SPF 30+ sunscreen—remember to apply to face, ears, hands & feet

👓 Sunglasses: look for CE mark and BS 12312 1:2013 standard

Take action this month:
• Share your sun-smart summer photos—show us how you're staying safe!
• Tag friends and family as a reminder to shade, cover, and protect
• Save or share this post to spread awareness
• Visit the NHS for more guidance

Let’s enjoy the sunny season safely—shade, suns screen, and smart choices. Your future skin will thank you!
