Final DofE expedition of the season - this time in the Black Mountains of Wales. Heavy rain in the evening is giving us lovely misty mornings and bright days though. Perfect autumnal walking weather with a school from Leatherhead with Sam Sykes Ltd.

Floods and torrential rain doesn’t stop About Argyll Walking Group making their destination!
Massive rainfall alerted us to leave Portree on Skye earlier than planned. Leaving at 0815 we managed to get past floodwater, river bursts and huge surface water until we got to Crianlarich where the Tarbert road along Loch Lomond was closed. The alternative A85 was closed just as we were trying to get through 2 feet of floodwater. The ONLY alternative was a 4 hour detour back to Spean Bridge to cross the A86 towards Newtonmore and the hopefully open A9!
We did it and 9.5 hours after leaving we got the clients to their hotel in Glasgow in time for their dinner at 1900. Phew! What a day - it’s been a challenging week weather wise and all the difficulties it brings, but we still managed to deliver a 12 day walking holiday and still visiting 14 out of 15 of the potential distilleries 😂
Good teamwork from the office and on the ground still delivered for our clients.

Final day with a private hiking group for About Argyll was spent on the island of Raasay. A great walk up to Dun Caan - the top of the ancient volcano is now a basalt plug but still very impressive with 360 degree views.
A visit to the distillery was obviously on the agenda!

It was a very wet and windy day today on Skye. Arrived at the Talisker distillery to find them in darkness with a power cut so our scheduled tasting was cancelled 😡 with no notice!
So a drive down to Talisker Bay and back before a trip to Ullinish and the tidal island of Oronsay for a very wet and windy walk. We stopped at Dun Beag Broch enroute which allowed the tide to ebb and free our walk over the causeway.
A disappointing day for our clients - hoping that the Raasay trip tomorrow will yield better results 🤞🏻

A good walk over The Lump at Portree today for www.aboutargyll.co.Uk
The weather was good late afternoon which enabled us to do some “off piste” Scottish walking over the rough ground and heather much to the chagrin of our US clients who had never done it before 👍

Left Iona yesterday, travelled across Mull to Oban and then drove to Glencoe. We stay here for two nights so we walked to Signal Rock to talk about the Glencoe massacre in 1692 before dinner at the Clachaig Inn. We have Campbells in the party but kept it quiet!
Tomorrow we spend time in the locality before heading to Stirling Castle and finishing in Edinburgh on Tuesday morning, when we will say goodbye to our friends from the Dickinson College Alumni group.

Mixed weather didn’t prevent us having a good day exploring Clachtoll Broch or the cliff tops of Stoer.

The midgies were out in force so Ellie decided to take advantage of our stylish PPE!
Otherwise plenty of Arctic skua, great skua, wheatear, whimbrel, fulmar, kittiwake, seals, common lizards, red grouse and red deer seen on our travels today.

A day of two walks around Lochinver today. First we walked up the River Kirkcraig to the Falls of Kirkcraig in lovely sun warming us, watched by the numerous red deer keeping an eye on us.
Then we walked the Glencanisp and River Inver loop.
Both walks gave us different views of Suilven but the cloud cover gave us the opportunity to try some B&W photo shots.
Finished the day with a lovely meal at An Cala and watching the sun set over the harbour.

We have travelled north west to Lochinver passing Corrieshalloch Gorge, Knockan Crag and Ardvreck Castle. We passed Suilven but due to low cloud, she didn’t say hello to us but we will see her over the next 3 days of walking.
The weather looks good going forward and tomorrow we walk around the River Inver and the Falls of Kirkaig so fingers crossed.
