This weekend, one of our First Responders Chris North, alongside his brother and sister Tom and Sarah, will be taking on the Hereford Half Marathon in aid of St Michael’s Hospice, in memory of their mum, Margaret.
This cause is one that holds real meaning for us at Arley Medical Services. Two years ago, Chris reached out for support at a very important time for his family. Margaret had been in hospital for two months with a terminal diagnosis, and Sarah was about to get married. The family wanted nothing more than for their mum to be there.
In Chris’s words: “Without the help of AMS we would not have been able to get mum to my sister’s wedding. By this point she needed to remain in a lying position, which the ambulance stretcher allowed, and she was also reliant on oxygen. Mum had an absolutely wonderful day being able to attend both the church service and the wedding reception. It meant the world to us as a family that we were able to make it happen. Dave and Mike attended in suits and were available to help mum whenever she needed but looked like regular wedding guests.”
We were proud to provide a dedicated ambulance and experienced crew to support Margaret throughout the day, remaining close by, offering quiet reassurance, and ensuring her comfort at all times. It’s moments like these that are a reminder that our role goes far beyond patient transport, and it’s being able to support patients and families in the moments that truly matter, helping them be present for life’s most important occasions.
We wish Chris, Sarah and Tom the very best this weekend.
