Reflexology for teens and children...
I was lucky to give a treatment today to a gorgeous new client. A young teen who left calm and relaxed and hopefully feeling healthy, balanced and happy going forwards.
Following months of lockdown, isolation from friends, school and normal routines many children and teenagers are struggling to manage their anxieties and emotions and to slot easily back into ‘normality’. Life away from stable learning has put them under pressure to catch up and achieve, leaving their physical, mental and emotional health under great stress. Add to this the ever-increasing pressure to conform or perform amongst their peers (exacerbated by social media) and exam season soon upon us and you have a perfect storm of overwhelm for young bodies and minds.
With so much pressure on them is essential that our precious young people are able to find ways to release stress and reduce anxiety. Reflexology has been extensively studied as an aid and treatment for reducing stress and overwhelm, for both children and adults alike. It is the perfect antidote to pressure and strain and can help improve cognitive function.
Like most adults, children and teenagers enjoy reflexology and react positively to the many benefits it can bring. It calms and relaxes them, helping to boost feel-good endorphins amplifying feelings of happiness and joy and reducing fear and bewilderment.
Reflexology has been shown to balance the organs and body systems and reinforce the body’s defences by boosting the immune system. This makes us strong and resistant to infection, disease and psychological stresses and leaves us less dependent on traditional medication.
Reflexology can also be an effective sleep aid and can combat insomnia. It can help to improve concentration at school or college and therefore be a positive influence on childrens’ schooling. Furthermore, it can help reduce headaches and migraines.
But just as importantly, a reflexology treatment allows that little quiet space and time just for them, where they can completely switch off, or talk, or a bit of both! They only need to take off their shoes.
By applying controlled pressure and massage to specific points and areas, on the feet, more than 7,000 nerve endings on the reflex points are stimulated. Each reflex point on the foot corresponds to a particular organ, system or structure in the body. The aim of reflexology is to restore, balance and maintain a healthy body and mind.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch for any further information or if you feel I can be of help to your child or teen.
