Happy New Year to all my friends around the world.

We are mid-way through the decisive decade.

We really need to make this year count!

Solstice Greetings from Sunningdale!

12.06 p.m. is the highest point of the sun today on the shortest day of the year.

From now on the days are lengthening and traditionally we celebrate by decorating trees and bringing nature indoors - deck the halls with boughs of holly!

This is the Tree Spirit at the display which we visited recently.

I've been in two minds whether to go.

Having observed the setup over the past few months on my weekly runs with my dog, with miles of electric cable connecting all the lights.

But they seem to have made an effort to minimise the environmental impact, by using hydrogenated vegetable oil to power the generators and guaranteeing zero waste to landfill (it gets turned into energy at the EfW plant) - although still releasing CO2 in abundance.

From an aesthetic point of view, they did a great job. Even my more cynical friends were impressed.

And it is certainly proving popular, judging by the packed carpark.

So, all things considered, I'm glad I went along for the experience but probably won't be back again.

I have a confession to make.
πŸ˜”
The large bag of soft plastics (in 2nd picture) is what my family has accumulated over the past couple of months.
πŸ›οΈ
I try to avoid buying products in plastic when possible - but it's not always easy. Plastic is such a useful material: lightweight, waterproof, durable and cheap and often with a lower environmental impact than paper!
🌲
But recently I read that we don't have the capacity to recycle all the soft plastic that people are carefully sorting and taking to these drop off points. So a large amount goes to Energy from Waste incinerators, thus releasing CO2 emissions in the process.
πŸ’¨
It's hard as an individual to 'do the right thing' so what we need is for the producers to pay for end of use recycling - investing in processed whereby soft plastics can genuinely be reconverted into new products.

My yoga journey

Hi - Welcome to Yoga with Rosie!

I have been teaching Yoga for over 15 years and have been practising for over 25. It is my privilege to share this ancient practice with others and my mission is to get as many people as I can to experience the joy that yoga brings.

Yoga found me when I was working in a stressful job in London in the Nineties. I belonged to a gym where I worked out and attended aerobics classes. One day there was a notice up advertising a yoga class. Not quite knowing what to expect, I went along and before long, I was hooked. I had always enjoyed the 5 minutes stretch you get at the end of an exercise class and here it was for a full hour - bliss! My gratitude goes to Lisa, my very first yoga teacher.

I continued to practice yoga on a weekly basis for several years and found it really helped to maintain my sanity and to keep my body healthy.
