Following a few chats with women recently and looking at clients food diaries, it made me realise how many women under-eat and cut out main food groups, so this week I've given all my clients the aim of focusing on carbs and here is why!

🥔🍓 Why “Good Carbs” Deserve a Place on Your Plate

Women often focus on cutting out carbs but not all carbs are created equal.

Good carbs are your body’s preferred fuel — and they play a huge role in stable energy, mood, and hormones.

✅ What are good carbs?
Think whole, fibre-rich carbs, such as:
Oats
Potatoes & sweet potatoes
Rice (especially basmati or brown)
Fruit & berries
Beans, lentils & wholegrains

⚖️ How good carbs stabilise blood sugar
Good carbs are digested more slowly because they contain fibre. This means:
Glucose is released gradually into the bloodstream
Blood sugar rises gently instead of spiking
Insulin response is steadier and more controlled
👉 The result?
Fewer crashes, less craving, better focus, and more consistent energy.

💥 Why cutting carbs can backfire
When carbs are too low, blood sugar can dip, triggering:
Energy slumps
Strong sugar cravings
Overeating later in the day
Increased stress hormones (hello cortisol!)

🧠 The sweet spot
Pair good carbs + protein + healthy fats and you’ve got a winning combo for:

✔️ Balanced blood sugar
✔️ Better workouts
✔️ Improved recovery
✔️ Sustainable fat loss

Carbs aren’t the enemy — under-fueling is.

Getting outside at this time of year can really help to lift the winter blues

I often program my online clients with a 15 min power walk on a Monday as it sets the tone for the week, helps with motivation and sleep

I've had to write this week off with exercise and work - am I worried I haven't kicked off Jan with a strong start??

No, because for me I'll just rebuild and then carry on with my consistency! If you rely on motivation, things like illness can throw you completely off course and you and may be tempted to abandon the new routine!

But if you build your fitness or work journey on consistency you will feel more inclined just to pick yourself back up and continue!!

I see how this works with clients and that's where I see results!

So don't beat yourself up for workouts or work not done just set realistic goals going forward!

Probably not many pictures of cake popping up on your January feed!

Fed up of energetic fitness instructors showing you a new diet or new exercise regime to make a new year new you??

For me fitness and nutrition goals shouldn't be an extreme contrast otherwise they are not sustainable. I don't want clients feeling guilty about what they eat, otherwise it wasn't worth eating it!

I help women make sustainable changes to work with their lives, help balance hormones, add good food into their diets and keep them moving and consistent even through the busy hard times

Stuck in bed with this flu but time to reflect on business as we start 2026 and am excited to be expanding my online offerings.

I've loved working 1:1 with clients and have women doing various online challenges and I'm keen to grow this even more with monthly memberships and a new postnatal and running program

Any other suggestions welcome as Percy and I sit here and plan 💻
