🌷 Spring has finally sprung!
To celebrate I’ve created a spring vocabulary sheet that you can use with your little one to introduce some new words. I’ve also included the makaton sign for each word!

Did you know offering your child choices can help boost their early language skills?
🗣️ when you give them the power to choose, they practice important communication skills like vocabulary, sentence structure and decision making.
👍🏻 whether it’s choosing between two toys or picking a snack, you’re creating opportunities for them to express themselves and build confidence in their language abilities!
🌱 try giving your little one simple choices today and watch their language grow.

🎉 Exciting news 🎉

Due to lots of requests from people who can’t attend the full 5 days of teaching we’ve decided to record the first 4 sessions so people can catch in their own time! (Recordings will be live for one week after the course has finished)

Attendance in person on Friday (the final day) is still mandatory to answer questions, go through the handouts and discuss some cases.

We hope this will give those who want to attend but can’t commit to the full week the option to still do the course!

Tech is not a strength of ours so apologies this is being announced so late but there is still time to book. Full details can be found here: https://www.learntofeed.com/event-details/paediatric-dysphagia-summer-crash-course

Can’t wait to see you all soon!

Chapter Four 📖 - School-age children

Brought to you by Kirsty & Chelsea .chat.play, Paediatric Speech Therapist & Feeding Specialist.

Want to know more about school-age children’s sleep and enhancing communication development…. keep reading ⬇️

💤 Consistency: A consistent bedtime routine helps children know what to expect and signals that it’s time to wind down.

🗣️ Social stories: These are short, descriptive narratives that can help children prepare for upcoming events. Making these part of your nightly routine can help reinforce the message.

💤 Understanding your child’s individual sleep needs: school-age children typically need 9-12 hours of sleep per night. Although maintaining routine is important, be flexible and adjust based on your child’s unique needs.

🗣️ Encourage independence: encouraging independence can help develop self-care skills, responsibly and confidence. Remember, a structured and consistent approach will help make the transition smoother and more effective.

💤 Balancing homework and activities: balancing homework, extracurricular activities, and bedtime can be challenging. Ensure there is enough time to complete all tasks without rushing. Limit screen time at least an hour before bedtime as the blue light can interfere with their natural sleep cycle.

🗣️ Enhance prediction and inference skills: bedtime can be a great time to build your child’s critical thinking and comprehension. This could include, story time predictions, asking why/ how questions or encouraging them to reflect on their day and what might happen tomorrow.
