Power yoga is dynamic energetic flow. But what does it mean to be powerful?

Some days it might mean showing up on your mat pushing yourself to its limits, trusting yourself, believing yourself and taking chances.

Other days being powerful is to surrender into acceptance. Accepting that today it’s okay to be vulnerable. The power of saying no, the power of listening to how you really feel today.

It’s powerful to take chances, risks and push ourselves. It’s also powerful to except rest where we are today.

A reminder that our practise is always powerful no matter how it physically looks

10 things I’ve learnt as a mum of two:

1. It’s true what they say. You don’t loose any love for your first your heart just get bigger. Then your heart bursts when they play and be cute together

2. Your first born is more adaptable and accepting of change than you realised.

3. Be a YES to help without hesitation! Take your 750 piles of washing to mums house when she offers (thanks mum!). Let your mate come round and do the washing up when they insist on it (I’ll be returning the favour next time my friend 😚). You aren’t failing.

4. Reassuring first time mums when there toddler “miss behaving” is totally normal and yours is wild too. I wish more mums told me this & it makes them and you feel less alone.

5. The second learns all the tricks from the first. So be prepared for everything a little earlier. Especially if your first is the wild one like me 🙃

6. They show and teach us how quick you can love, fight and forgive. A cute cuddle turns into a wrestling match then to besties and giggles in a matter of seconds.

7. You don’t realise how resilient you truly are. It’s a power and a curse. Remember to rest and look after yourself too.

8. A cuddle fixes most problems

9. Mum guilt continues but reminding yourself you’re doing your best gets easier

10. You’ll continue to find your feet and loose them again and again and again. This time you just know it’s part of it. It’ll get easier riding the waves

Let’s be realistic, you aren’t always able to set your alarm an hour before the kids wake. You’ve been awake multiple times in the night soothing, snuggling & prehaps negotiating with your young children (hello three year olds)

Maybe your youngest naps but your toddler can’t be left unattended while you take 5 minutes in a quiet space to close your eyes and meditate.

As parents we put ourselves last. All day we provide for our children making sure they’re fed, hydrated & had enough stimulation that by the time we’ve done their bedtime routine we ourselves are ready to curl up under the duvet ourselves - or is this just me?!

Self care for a mama has to be adaptable & flexible. It is the days, weeks & sometimes months of challenging times when we really need that self care. But how do we fit it in?

Simplify it!

Movement could be a walk with the kids. Being fully present with our surrounding, noticing the sounds, smells, breeze & birds and experiencing it all together as a fam can be your meditation.

Self care can be cancelling plans so you rest, leaving the house a mess so you get an early night or calling a mate for a good old chat.

Don’t get put off by seeing peoples morning routines of bliss, exercise & personal development. Yours can look like this too just maybe not right now… but you’re still doing great!
