Acupuncture By Vanessa

Acupuncture By Vanessa Traditional Acupuncture Traditional Acupuncture is one of the world’s oldest systems of medicine, dating back some 5000 years.

In recent years acupuncture has become recognized in the West for its ability to address chronic and debilitating conditions, in addition to the treatment of pain. Its focus is on improving the overall well being of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms. The main principle of Traditional Acupuncture is the treatment of the whole person and the condition. This is achi

eved by balancing their vital energy—known as Qi—which enables the body, mind and spirit to function in harmony and achieve health and well-being. This helps symptoms and any underlying imbalance, which may be contributing to the disease. In this way, symptoms can be alleviated and the cause of the problem identified and helped, leading to a more permanent improvement than treatment of the symptoms alone. Symptoms are distress signals that indicate that the energy is out of balance. Traditional Acupuncture addresses them by treating the underlying cause of the problem. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) having completed a three year degree course at the College of Traditional Acupuncture in Royal Leamington Spa. The BAcC maintains standards of education, ethics, discipline and practice to ensure the health and safety of the public at all times. Through this I am covered by Medical Malpractice and Public/Products Liability Insurance. As a member of the BAcC, I observe a Code of Safe Practice, which lays down stringent standards of hygiene and requires the use of sterile, disposable needles. I have always been particularly interested in the treatment of infertility with acupuncture. In fact, this is what first introduced me to acupuncture while undergoing fertility treatment and eventually IVF. I even wrote my dissertation in this subject. Furthermore, I became an affiliated acupuncturist of the Zita West network for reproductive health. All members receive training and ongoing support in Zita West’s comprehensive, holistic approach to achieving optimum reproductive health. This covers a wide range of treatments and approaches to help boost fertility, enhance IVF, improve pregnancy, enhance birth outcomes and support postnatal recovery. I am also one of a few practitioners trained in the specialised technique of Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture by Virginia Doran of New York.

You can be happy for your friend… and still feel heartbroken for yourself.

It doesn’t make you a bad person. It makes you human.

If you’re navigating fertility struggles, seeing a friend’s pregnancy announcement can feel like a gut punch. You want to celebrate with them, but there’s a deep ache inside you that won’t be ignored. That ache can come with guilt, shame, even resentment—and then more guilt for feeling that way.

Grief and joy can coexist. You are allowed to protect your heart while still loving your people. 💔💗

If this is you today be gentle with yourself. This journey asks so much—and you’re doing your best.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and we want to talk about how much BAcC practitioners can help those in our communities struggling with mental health issues.

Traditional acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is a holistic discipline, and treats the whole person rather than the ‘disease’. The aetiology for depression, anxiety, and stress can be complex and varied from person to person.

In this fascinating members-only article from the recent edition of Acu Magazine, Peter Mole, Dean Emeritus of the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, explains his integrated approach to treating anxiety combining the wisdom of Five Element theory and TCM protocols.

It’s been a busy time supporting ladies going through fertility treatments these past few weeks and now fortunately, I’m continuing to see them now that they’re pregnant. Acupuncture is perfectly safe to have during pregnancy. I often treat ladies who suffer from pregnancy ailments seeking acupuncture for morning sickness, headaches, backache, sciatica, anxiety, heartburn, constipation, carpal tunnel syndrome and also for general well-being during pregnancy.

I usually recommend weekly treatments until the twelfth week of pregnancy and then monthly from then on. Also, many come and have regular sessions of acupuncture in the lead up to labour on a weekly basis (from about 36 weeks). I find it can give them more energy and also help them to sleep. Some studies suggest that acupuncture in the lead-up to labour may help to relax the body and help the woman to have a better experience during labour.
