The worst shoes you can wear in the rain?

Trainers and canvas shoes.

They soak up water like a sponge, leaving your feet cold, damp, and prone to athlete’s foot. Plus, smooth soles can make slips more likely. Waterproof boots with tread and cushioned insoles are a far safer and healthier option.

✅ Next rainy day, check the bottom of your shoes — if they don’t grip well, it’s time to upgrade.

☔️ Fed up of soggy socks every time it rains?

When feet stay damp, blisters and fungal infections are much more likely. The good news? The right footwear choices make all the difference. Waterproof shoes, moisture-wicking socks, and drying your shoes properly can keep feet comfortable all day long.

👣 Try stuffing wet shoes with newspaper overnight — it absorbs moisture faster than just leaving them out!

👟Is Your Footwear Ageing You?

Shoes that don’t support you properly can age your posture — and your joints.

Your feet affect your whole alignment. Bad shoes = bad posture, sore knees, and aching lower backs.

✅ Check your shoes: If they twist easily or fold in half, they’re not giving enough support.

Understanding the root cause and when it’s time to see a podiatrist

What is an Ingrown Toenail?
An ingrown toenail occurs when the edge of your nail starts to grow into the surrounding skin — most commonly on the big toe. It can be painful, swollen, and may lead to infection if left untreated.

Why It’s More Than Just an Infection
It’s common to visit a GP and be given antibiotics when your toe is sore or red. While antibiotics can reduce infection, they don’t address the core issue — the nail pressing into the skin.

Once the antibiotics wear off, the pain often returns, and the cycle continues unless the root problem is treated.

Signs That Antibiotics Alone Won’t Help
✅Persistent pain despite medication
✅Nail visibly digging into the skin
✅Recurring infections or discharge
✅Difficulty walking or wearing shoes
✅Red or inflamed skin near the nail edge

🌞 Struggling with an ingrown toenail in this heat? Wearing closed shoes might be making it worse!

Here’s why it’s a bad combo:
❌ Heat causes swelling, which adds pressure to the nail
❌ Shoes trap sweat, raising your risk of infection
❌ Constant rubbing delays healing and increases pain

When your feet start to feel uncomfortable, tired, or painful—especially after standing or walking—it’s natural to wonder: “Do I need insoles?”

The answer isn’t always straightforward, as it depends on the structure of your feet, how you walk, and any underlying foot or leg conditions. At Foot Corner, we’re here to help you find out with our expert biomechanical assessments.

What Are Insoles For?
Insoles, also known as orthotics, are inserts placed inside your shoes to support, align, and improve the function of your feet. They can help with:

✔️Foot pain and fatigue

✔️Flat feet or high arches

✔️Heel pain (plantar fasciitis)

✔️Knee, hip or lower back discomfort linked to poor foot posture

✔️Correcting alignment and improving walking patterns

But not everyone needs insoles. And not all insoles are created equal.

When the temperature rises, so does your risk of athlete’s foot. Warm weather creates the perfect environment for fungal infections—sweaty feet, enclosed shoes, and shared surfaces like swimming pool areas can all lead to that itchy, uncomfortable condition between your toes.

What is Athlete’s Foot?
Athlete’s foot is a common fungal infection that thrives in warm, moist environments. It usually starts between the toes and can cause:

✅Itching, burning, or stinging

✅Peeling or cracking skin

✅Redness or inflammation

✅Unpleasant foot odour

Why You Should Choose Nail Reconstruction with the LCN Method by a Podiatrist — Not Acrylic Nails at a Nail Bar

If you’re self-conscious about damaged, or partially missing toenails, the temptation to cover them up with acrylic nails from a salon can be strong. But while they may offer a quick cosmetic fix, acrylic nails can do more harm than good—especially on compromised toenails. That’s why Foot Corner recommends nail reconstruction using the LCN method, carried out by a trained podiatrist.

Here’s why this safe, medical-grade approach is a smarter choice for your feet.

1. It’s a Medical Procedure – Not Just a Cosmetic One
LCN (Light Concept Nails) is a specialised resin designed for damaged or partially missing toenails. When applied by a podiatrist, the process is hygienic, clinical, and tailored to your health—not just how it looks. Unlike nail bars, podiatrists assess the underlying cause of nail damage and ensure that treatment is safe, sterile, and appropriate for your nail condition.

2. Acrylic Nails Can Trap Fungus and Cause More Damage
Acrylic nails were never designed for use on infected, misshapen, or brittle toenails. They can trap moisture and bacteria, increasing the risk of fungal infections. Over time, they can make things worse, damaging the nail bed and delaying healing. If you already have a fungal infection, covering it up with acrylic only hides the problem—it doesn’t solve it...to continue reading click on the link

What’s the Difference Between a Pedicure and Podiatry?

When your feet are aching or your heels are cracked, you might wonder: Do I need a podiatrist, or just a pedicure? At Foot Corner, we’re often asked this question, and it’s an important one—because while both treatments involve your feet, they offer very different outcomes.

Pedicure: A Cosmetic Experience

A pedicure is a cosmetic treatment, usually carried out in a beauty salon or spa. It’s designed to improve the appearance of your feet and toenails. Pedicures often include:

👉Soaking the feet in warm water

👉Removing dead skin and calluses (lightly)

👉Trimming and shaping the nails

👉Applying polish

👉A gentle massage

Pedicures are relaxing, and your feet can certainly feel softer afterwards—but they are not medical treatments.

Podiatry: Professional Foot Healthcare

A podiatrist is a medical professional trained to assess, diagnose, and treat foot and lower limb conditions. At Foot Corner, we see patients with a wide range of issues such as:

👉Corns and calluses that cause pain

👉Fungal nail infections

👉Cracked heels and dry skin

👉Ingrown toenails

👉Verrucas

👉Heel or arch pain

👉Diabetic foot problems

Unlike pedicures, podiatry involves clinical assessments, and treatments that address the underlying cause of the problem. You’ll leave not just feeling better—but actually getting better.

Medical vs. Cosmetic: Why It Matters

The difference really comes down to safety and results.
Medical-grade care: Podiatrists use sterilised tools and follow strict infection control standards.

Tailored treatment: Every patient receives a professional assessment before treatment.

Real results: We don't just make your feet look better—we help them function better too.

Foot issues are more common than most people think—and sometimes, they’re more complex than they appear. Two of the most frequently misdiagnosed foot conditions are Athlete’s Foot (Tinea Pedis) and Pitted Keratolysis. They may look similar at first glance, but understanding their differences is crucial for effective treatment.

At Foot Corner, we see countless patients with symptoms like peeling skin, itching, foot odour, and discomfort. A proper diagnosis is key—and that starts with understanding what you might be dealing with.

What Is Athlete’s Foot?
Athlete’s Foot is a fungal infection of the skin, commonly affecting the soles of the feet and in between the toes. It's highly contagious and thrives in warm, damp environments—think sweaty socks, gym floors, and communal showers.

Common symptoms include:

✔️Itching, burning, or stinging sensations

✔️Red, scaly, or cracked skin

✔️Peeling, especially between the toes

✔️Foul odour

✔️Possible blisters or ulcers in more severe cases

Causes:

✔️Fungal species like Trichophyton rubrum

✔️Damp footwear and socks

✔️Walking barefoot in public spaces

🦶When it comes to persistent foot, ankle, or even knee and lower back pain, the problem might not be where you're feeling it — but how you're moving. At Foot Corner, we specialise in understanding the mechanics of your body, starting from the ground up. That’s where a biomechanical examination comes in.

What Is a Biomechanical Examination?
A biomechanical examination is a detailed assessment of how your body moves, particularly the lower limbs. It looks closely at the structure, alignment, and motion of your feet, ankles, knees, hips, and lower back to detect abnormalities or imbalances that may contribute to pain or injury.

As podiatrists, we assess both static posture (how you stand) and dynamic motion (how you walk or run). This can include:

✅Gait analysis (observation of your walking or running pattern)

✅Joint range of motion testing

✅Muscle strength and flexibility assessments

✅Foot posture and arch evaluation

✅Weight distribution analysis

Why Might You Need a Biomechanical Examination?

If you're dealing with any of the following issues, a biomechanical exam could be key to unlocking the cause:

✅Heel or arch pain (like plantar fasciitis)

✅Achilles tendonitis

✅Shin splints or knee pain

✅Flat feet or high arches

✅Hip, lower back, or leg pain

✅Recurrent injuries during sport or daily activity

✅Poor posture or gait abnormalities

✅Custom orthotics assessment

In many cases, pain in the feet, knees, or hips is linked to how your feet strike the ground and how your body compensates. These small imbalances add up over time, especially if you’re active, on your feet all day, or have a history of injury.
