Proud to be a female-led, family-owned funeral home.
Grateful for the incredible women around us — the suppliers who create such magic, and the women who help us deliver the very best for the families we care for.
To those above who look down on us, and to our mothers and friends who hold us up — today we celebrate you.
Here’s to the women. 🤍

Personal Funeral (Direct Cremation)

Following the pandemic and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, many families are choosing direct cremation. At Country Funerals, we believe this should never mean impersonal. Every person matters, and we are committed to ensuring each loved one is given a final journey filled with dignity, care, and kindness—even when no one is able to be in attendance.

From the first phone call through to the cremation itself, we are here to guide and support families every step of the way. All necessary paperwork can be completed with us in person or over the telephone, whichever feels easiest.

On the day of the cremation, a rose and plate are placed on the coffin, and your loved one is conveyed to Charing Crematorium in our hearse. We walk the hearse down the driveway and play a piece of music they loved as they enter the chapel. At this time, we can also read a poem, words, or a message chosen by the family. We remain in the chapel for a few quiet moments, listening to the music, before closing the curtains ourselves—ensuring your loved one is not alone at this final moment.

We also offer the collection of ashes, bringing them back into our care until the family are ready to collect them and place their loved one somewhere they will always be remembered.

Every life deserves to be honoured. If a direct cremation is the chosen journey, we will always ensure it is carried out with respect, warmth, and genuine compassion.

We offer every family the option of creating a tribute page through Much Loved, a gentle online space where funeral details can be shared and where family and friends may come together to leave messages, light virtual candles and make donations in memory of their loved one, to a charity of their choice.

This year, our families have raised an incredible £22,190, which has been shared among a wide range of charities, creating a lasting and meaningful legacy.

Yesterday, a much-loved family friend had her wish fulfilled, thanks to Sonny Hillier Horse Drawn Carriages and his beautiful horses - Joker and Leo.

Although the rain and wind stayed with us on her final journey to the Crematorium, her service closed with “Singing in the Rain” — a gentle reminder that she wouldn’t have minded at all.

The flowers, lovingly provided by Hannas Bloom Room, were truly beautiful, with even a lead delicately wired with flowers. Nothing was too much, and every tribute felt thoughtfully and uniquely created. A lifelong poodle breeder and devoted lover of the breed, it felt only right that a poodle made a special appearance.

Tomorrow we care for a much-loved family friend.

As people leave the service, there will be her favourite Jaffa Cakes — and Bonios for any four-legged friends.

At Country Funerals, we pride ourselves on doing that little bit extra… even if that means tying bows on Bonios 💙

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.”

At Westerleigh Group’s memorial gardens, the iconic white “Letters to Loved Ones” post-boxes let people drop cards and notes to their lost loved ones — a gentle way to stay connected, anytime.

The idea first came from a young girl, Matilda Handy, who wanted to send birthday and Christmas cards to her grandparents after they’d passed away. Her mum, a memorial advisor at Gedling Crematorium (also part of the Westerleigh Group), helped install the first white post box in December 2022.

This beautiful book, now here at Country Funerals, reminds us how important it is to write to the ones we love. It shares the heartfelt story of young Matilda’s wish to send letters to her grandparents after they passed — a simple, powerful reminder that love continues in the words we share.
