A new health walk is starting in Bridge near Canterbury on Thursday, 19 February. The walk will run on the first and third Thursday of each month.

Simon will lead the walk and will meet you by the parking spaces next to the recreation field on Patrixbourne Road at 10.30am.

Myth #8: . Smoking helps you relax and cope with stress and anxiety.

Fact: Quitting smoking can actually improve your mental health. It reduces anxiety, depression and stress levels.

The ‘relief’ you feel after smoking is usually caused by the withdrawal cycle. Smoking gives a short burst of dopamine, but this is quickly followed by withdrawal symptoms.

When you quit, your body’s natural mood-regulating chemicals can stabilise, helping you feel calmer and more balanced once cravings pass.

🎗️ Kent & Medway NHS Ambassadors Network 🎗️

Our Lifestyle Advisor Jan, visited the FutureProof programme on 28th November, at the iconic Droit House in Margate. The Futureproof Programme is a 10-week initiative run by CXK, designed for young people aged 16–25, to develop their employability skills and exploring new opportunities😊

As part of this programme, Jan delivered an engaging session highlighting the wide range of training, volunteering and career pathways available within the NHS. She also shared her own career journey, including voluntary roles and work experience🧑‍🏭

Bringing her Lifestyle role to life, she showed the young people the always-popular fat blobs, and did a interactive sugar quiz - which sparked some meaningful discussions 🗣️

A big thank-you to CXK and the FutureProof team for hosting such an inspiring programme. It was a pleasure for the Kent & Medway Ambassadors Network to support young people as they explore their next steps👦👧🏽

#7. Myth: My smoking doesn’t harm anyone else:

Fact: Second-hand smoke is a very real danger. People who do not smoke who are exposed to other people’s smoke long-term have an:
• increased risk of contracting lung cancer or having a stroke.
• increased risk of coronary heart disease.

Second-hand smoke is also a risk factor for:
• respiratory illnesses and infections.
• middle ear disease.
• asthma attacks in children.
• and sadly sudden infant death syndrome.

Children breathe faster than adults. This means they take in more of the harmful chemicals in second-hand smoke.

Our Lifestyle Adviser, Ketki, and Smokefree Adviser, Gonzalo, were busy supporting residents with advice on quitting smoking, losing weight and making healthier choices.

Gonzalo even invited the Mayor of Ashford to try the Carbon Monoxide monitor – a great way to see the impact smoking can have on your body.
