The lucky ones 🐷🐔

It’s Food Waste Action Week (9–13 March), and here at Green Farm we’re always thinking about how to respect every ingredient a little more.

If pumpkins from the garden need using, they become soup.If bread’s a little too old for the table, the chickens are delighted. If there’s surplus milk, the pigs are very grateful indeed.

Our menus flex around what needs using first. Nothing goes to waste if it can be repurposed, reimagined or returned to the land. Peelings are composted. Compost feeds the soil. The soil grows the next season’s harvest.

It’s not about perfection. Just doing our bit.
Because respecting food means respecting the land, the animals and the effort that went into growing it in the first place. 🌱

Today we celebrate the women who make Green Farm what it is 💚

The early starts. The muddy boots. The calm hands in the treatment room. The laughter in the kitchen. The spreadsheets. The planting. The welcoming smiles. The behind-the-scenes magic no one sees.

Green Farm is powered by women who care deeply about what they do, for the land, for our guests, for each other.

We won’t list names because this is about every single one of you.You know who you are. And we are so grateful.

Happy International Women’s Day to the incredible women of Green Farm, and to women everywhere creating, nurturing, leading and lifting others as they go. 🌿

🕊️ Supporting Turtle Doves at Green Farm Kent

We’re excited to share that Green Farm Kent is getting involved in Turtle Dove conservation, working alongside Shivani Thevar from the Operation Turtle Dove project (RSPB).

The Turtle Dove is the UK’s fastest declining bird species but there is hope on the horizon, and we’re proud to play our part in helping to create and manage habitat that supports their recovery.

By working collaboratively and managing our land with nature in mind, we are:
🌿Supplementary feeding Turtle Doves when they arrive in the UK
🌾 Improve feeding habitats and wildflowers
🌳 Provide safe nesting areas in scrub

Farming and conservation can go hand in hand, and we’re committed to doing both responsibly.

We look forward to sharing updates as the project develops!

February in the garden 🌱

While it may look quiet from a distance, there is so much happening beneath the surface.

The first spring flowers are greeting us and cheering us through these wet, grey days. Deep blue and purple iris reticulata. Orange crocus. Pink hellebores. And this week, our very first daffodils have opened.

In summer they would be lost in the riot of colour, but right now, they shine exactly when we need them most.

The winter has been unusually wet, making work on the beds difficult. We avoid treading where we can (if only we could levitate!) to protect the soil structure. So while the ground rests, we’ve been busy:
• Wood chipping and weeding paths
• Pruning roses
• Cleaning greenhouse glass and polytunnels to maximise precious light
• Sharpening tools and tidying stores
• Checking stored pumpkins, onions, shallots and beans
• Chitting potatoes on sunny windowsills
• Sowing chilli, sweet pepper and aubergine on heat mats for their long growing season
• Starting broad beans, onions and microgreens
• Experimenting with our own saved seeds

Saving seed is something we’re passionate about. Year by year, we’re hoping to grow varieties better suited to our soil. Our saved garlic cloves have already grown bigger and better with each season, a small but satisfying reminder of patience and persistence.

And of course, there is harvesting too. Parsnips. Leeks. Jerusalem artichokes. Rosemary. Salad leaves. Microgreens. Even the last of the chillies.

It’s not a showy time of year.
But it is a hopeful one.

The growing season is already quietly underway. 🌿

Let’s make it the year you actually do the thing.

If your group chat has been “planning” this since 2023… this is your sign.

You know the one.
The chat that starts with “We should all go away!” and ends with… tumbleweed.

The Barn at Green Farm is made for the kind of weekends that actually happen:
– Sleeps 8–14 (so no one gets left out)
– Big shared spaces for long breakfasts + late nights
– Countryside walks straight from the door
– Optional spa treatments for whoever wants them
– Extras if you fancy it: private chef dinner, wine tasting, yoga and so much more!

If you’ve been meaning to pick a date… pick it.

Send the “Right, who’s in?” message.

And let’s make it the year you actually do the thing.
