A real surface replacement

Dear experts in hand surgery,

A decade of innovation, a decade of trust – our CapFlex prosthesis has been successfully in use for more than 10 years. Together with you, we were able to celebrate numerous milestones.

The main indication for CapFlex is osteoarthritis of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint, also known medically as bouchard's osteoarthritis. This degenerative disease, triggered by cartilage damage with subchondral sclerosis or bony defects, affects around 10 – 15% of women over 60 years of age more often than men. In addition, accident-related damage to the joint structures can also lead to a corresponding bone defect in younger patients. The progressive loss of cartilage leads to friction, pain and stiffness and thus to restrictions that can significantly reduce the quality of life.

Intact extensor and flexor tendons, lateral finger stability of less than 20° – 30° with an existing radial collateral ligament, and sufficient bone storage for implantation are crucial for optimal functionality of the prosthesis.

What makes the CapFlex special? The proven combination of metal and polyethylene ensures an impressive combination of stability and mobility, even in advanced osteoarthritis and destroyed interphalangeal joints. At the same time, the titanium backcoating design enables reliable osteointegration of the implant and revision procedures are also easier due to the significantly lower bone resection.
