Self-Care Sunday

Spending time in nature for as little as 15–20 minutes daily significantly boosts mental and physical health by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, whilst lowering blood pressure and heart rate.

Natural environments enhance cognitive function, increase Vitamin D levels, improve immune function, and boost mood and creativity.

January has been rather wet and gloomy, so although you might not feel like going outside, allow your inner child to have some fun and go splash in the puddles!

Self-Care Sunday

With stress, anxiety and overwhelm levels at an all time high, this can affect us physically, emotionally and mentally.

Life can feel very busy, but it's important to find moments of self-care, however small.

When we feel stressed and anxious, our breathing can become shallow, so take a few moments throughout your day, to become present and notice how you feel.

Try closing your eyes, and with a hand on your heart, take at least 3 deep breaths right into the belly and sigh out any stress or heaviness you might be feeling in the body.

Continue as long as you need to until you feel a greater sense of peace and calm.

Getting out in nature is also a great way to support you on all levels.

Happy Self-Care Sunday and don't forget to BREATHE!

Did you know that your head weighs around 5kg. As you tilt your head forwards it places more force on the spine.

Spending an extended time in this position when looking down at your phone or laptop increases the strain on your cervical spine and postural muscles to keep the head upright and eyes looking forwards.

This can lead to symptoms including:

- Headaches
- Shoulder pain
- Neck pain
- Upper back pain
- Tightness and stiffness across your shoulders
- Numbness and tingling in the arms and hands
- Decreased range of motion
- Jaw pain and dysfunction

How can we avoid this?

✅Take frequent movement breaks from your phone and laptop
✅Avoid looking down for extended periods
✅Set a timer to remind you to walk around every 20-30 minutes
✅Consider using a standing desk if you spend long periods on your work laptop
✅Lift your chair up higher and drop your knees below your hips when seated to improve your upper body posture.
✅Keep electronic devices at eye level
✅Set a time limit on your social media usage

In need of extra support and realignment? Give us a call on 01372 271970 to book an appointment.
