Tameside & Glossop Children's Community Nursing Team We provide nursing care at home and in clinics for children 0-19 years who have an acute or long term illness.

We accept referrals from GPs, Health Visitors, School Nurses, A&E/Assessment Unit, Paediatric consultants. The children's community nursing service aims to keep children and young people out of hospital where possible by providing nursing care closer to home. We are a team of 15 paediatric nurses with a broad range of experience and nursing backgrounds. We cover the Tameside and Glossop area from

8am-8pm seven days a week, 365 days of the year. We visit children at home and also hold clinics 7 days a week at Tameside Hospital for non-acute appointments such as wound care, eczema and constipation. We care for children with a diagnosis including but not limited to: viral wheeze, asthma, viral illness, diarrhoea/vomiting, enteral feeding, oncology, eczema, constipation, HSP, rashes, IV antibiotic administration, management of lines and CVADs, neonatal outreach, palliative and end of life care. As a student nurse placement provider, we frequently accommodate student nurses from University of Manchester and University of Salford. We have good working relationships with local GPs and the wider health-care team including school nurses and health visitors.

🫁International asthma and allergy awareness month💙

Prevention is the best treatment! If you’re caring for a child with asthma..
* have they got a personalised asthma action plan (PAAP)?
* Are they consistently using their preventer medication?
* Have you booked in with the GP for their yearly review? They may need their peak flow measuring again, and a medication review

Asthma can be serious and even life-threatening, but with the right care and management, children can live full, happy, and active lives. Well done to our families managing asthma at home, for everything you do to keep your children safe and thriving💙🙌🏽

🌙 Safer Sleep Week 💤
It’s Safer Sleep Week, and we know many parents have questions about baby sleep — especially when everyone is tired and looking for anything that might help their little one settle!
But it’s important to remember that many popular sleep products on the market are NOT safe and do not meet safe sleep guidelines. These products can increase the risk of SIDS, even when marketed as “must‑haves.”
👉 The Lullaby Trust has created a simple guide to show what you actually need for a safe sleep space — and what you can confidently leave on the shelves. Give them a follow for reliable, evidence‑based advice The Lullaby Trust
👶 What Should My Baby Wear to Sleep?
With the ever‑changing British weather, it can be so confusing to know how to dress your baby for sleep!
Thankfully, The Lullaby Trust has also made an Easy Read guide to help you dress your baby safely, based on room temperature:

🌟 Antibiotics: What Every Parent Needs to Know About Them 🌟
When your child is prescribed antibiotics, it’s important to use them safely and correctly to help fight bacterial infections. Here are the key things to remember:
🦠 Why they matter:
Antibiotics help kill harmful bacteria and clear infections — but only when they’re truly needed.
💊 Follow the prescribed dose:
Your doctor works out the right amount for your child. Always follow the label and timing instructions carefully.
⏰ Missed a dose?
Antibiotics work best when given regularly. One extra dose by mistake is usually not harmful, but if you miss several or give too much, contact a medical professional. Keep the medicine or packaging handy when seeking advice.
💡 Other medicines:
Paracetamol is usually safe to give alongside antibiotics (unless your doctor says otherwise). Check before giving any other prescription, herbal, or over‑the‑counter medicines.
🤢 Side effects:
Children may vomit or have diarrhoea with antibiotics. Encourage plenty of fluids. If symptoms become severe or your child is unusually sleepy, floppy, or unresponsive, seek medical help urgently.

🚨 Hot off the press! Update for families across Greater Manchester 🚨

There have been new changes to the discharge process for children leaving hospital with a salbutamol (blue) inhaler.
When your child is discharged, you will now receive a “Wheeze Discharge Advice” leaflet. This includes an easy-to-follow flow chart explaining when and how to give salbutamol at home.
📹 Watch this short video for a clear explanation of the flow chart:
