Recent Project: WiFi Installation
📍 Location: Etihad Stadium

➡️ Project Overview
Over the past two weeks, Vertical Access has supported Electro UK in the installation of 85 new WiFi antennas at the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City FC. This forms part of the club’s wider stadium redevelopment project, which includes a significant upgrade to their WiFi system.

⚠️ The Challenge
With the ongoing construction of the new stand, the stadium site saw an increase in foot traffic and heavy plant movement. Our teams were required to work carefully and strategically to minimise disruption to other on-site operations.

🔎 Our Response
Our rope access operatives worked flexibly alongside multiple third-party contractors, adapting to design changes and shifting scopes while maintaining the project timeline. We maintained close communication with both Electro UK and stadium representatives to ensure a smooth project outcome.

🎖️ The Outcome
The antenna installation was completed on time and to specification, with zero issues and all parties were satisfied with the result.

Great job, team!

👷 Our experienced Structures Team are available to perform a range of installations for stadiums & arenas across the UK, including WiFi, 5G, CCTV. Floodlights & more.

Emergency Call-Out?
No Problem.

Last night, we were called out to an urgent situation in a busy city centre high street where a dislodged glass panel was looming over a high footfall retail area.

In these scenarios, speed and safety are everything. Had the team waited on traditional access methods like scaffolding or MEWPs, the risk to the public could have quickly escalated.

➡️ Enter rope access.
Our rapid response team was on-site, up the building, and resolving the issue before sunrise. The panel was safely located, removed, and replaced with zero disruption to the public or surrounding property.

This is exactly where rope access shows its value:
✅ Rapid mobilisation
✅ Minimal disruption
✅ Safe resolution in hard-to-reach areas

👏 Huge thanks to our night shift heroes who took it all in stride and did a smashing job (pun absolutely intended).

Need urgent assistance? We offer rapid response rope access solutions for emergency situations. Fast, safe, and with minimal disruption.

Where there’s ivy, there’s a way. 🍃
– Denton Town Hall Devegetation

✅ Overview:
This week, we were called in to tackle a particularly challenging patch of ivy on Denton Town Hall. The growth was not only extensive but also awkwardly positioned, making for a complex removal process.

⚠️ The Challenge:
Due to the ivy’s location and limited access points around the building, our operatives couldn’t simply descend on ropes or position a MEWP close enough to reach it safely from the platform. Standard approaches weren’t feasible.

🔎 Our Response:
Many companies might have defaulted to scaffolding as the next best option, but this is where our rope access expertise and creativity sets us apart.

Our access solution involved the following key elements:

➡️ Using a MEWP to gain a suitable vantage point to deploy a rope system over the roof
➡️ Implementing a combination of specialist & complex rope access techniques to safely reach and remove the ivy

🎖️ The Outcome:
Thanks to our operatives' precise and considered approach, the Town Hall was left completely intact, with no disruption to the building or its occupants.

A clean result for a complex challenge. Great work, team!

Inside the Toolbox 🧰
Part 2 / Harken Power Seat

🔍 Function?
➡️ As a powered ascender, the Harken PowerSeat is used on rope access projects to allow technicians to ascend ropes via battery power at the touch of a button.
➡️ PowerSeats can be used to haul equipment and materials into position.
➡️ PowerSeats have become increasingly popular in confined space environments and rope access rescue operations. When the PowerSeat is rigged for rescue, technicians can carry out the rescue swiftly and efficiently with minimal exertion should the need arise.

⭐ Benefits?
➡️ Reduced Fatigue - Allows our operatives to maintain energy, eliminating the need to physically ascend their ropes.
➡️ Versatility - The PowerSeat can be used in a variety of settings, including confined spaces, indoor environments & outdoor work.

You can read below about our coatings project at Heathrow Control Tower, where we used PowerSeats for the ascension of operatives and FOD-PODS👇

National SME Day💼
- Celebrating the small teams everywhere!

Today we’re celebrating National SME Day. A day which recognises the hard work, resilience and contribution of the small & medium businesses that make up 99.2% of the UK’s business population.

As one of those SMEs, we know first-hand that success doesn’t come from size, it comes from people.

With a team of fewer than 25 full-time staff, every single person at Vertical Access plays a vital role in what we do.

For all our operatives on-site, office support, part-time staff & trusted contractors. Today is about you.

Thank you!

Staff Training 👷
- Powered Ascenders Operation & Rescue Training

Today we're taking the opportunity to carry out some in-house training with our Harken Battery Powerseats. Training in an open learning environment gives our operatives the opportunity to learn the safe use of the Powerseats in controlled and safe conditions.

A large part of the training is hands-on - looking at ascent, descent, hauling & rescue methods. With a vast amount of experience within the VA team these training sessions are very valuable with a chance to share knowledge and ideas.

Stay tuned for more information on powered ascenders and how we use them on our projects...

Shaping the Future of Rope Access⭐
- Year 6 Careers Fair

Today, members of the Vertical Access team had the pleasure of visiting Millbrook Primary School to take part in their annual Year 6 Careers Fair.

We spoke with students about the exciting world of rope access, gave a live abseiling demo, and answered plenty of great questions about what a career in our industry looks like.

A huge thank you to Millbrook Primary for having us – we hope we sparked some curiosity (and maybe even inspired a few future rope access technicians!).
