The “winter is coming” messages will be hitting your feeds soon, so we thought we’d get in early… obvious Game of Thrones reference, anyone? Anyone? ... 😄 Anyway, let’s get to the useful bit!

As the colder months approach, it’s a good idea to make sure your home medicine cabinet is stocked with essentials — including homely remedies for common winter ailments. Many coughs, colds, sore throats, and upset stomachs can be safely managed at home with over-the-counter items and simple remedies recommended by your pharmacist.

🩺 Homely remedies and essentials to have on hand:

- Paracetamol and/or ibuprofen – for pain, fever, and aches
- Throat lozenges and cough syrup – to soothe sore throats and coughs
- Decongestant or vapour rub – for blocked noses
- Antihistamines – for allergies or itching
- Rehydration sachets – for sickness or diarrhoea
- Plasters, antiseptic cream, and bandages – for minor cuts or scrapes
- A thermometer – to check for fever
- Any regular prescription medicines you or your family need

💊 Top tip: Check expiry dates and replace anything out of date. Store medicines safely, out of sight and reach of children.

Your local pharmacist 🌟can provide expert advice on homely remedies and how to manage common winter symptoms safely.

Life moves pretty fast! 🏡📱with new routines, it’s easy for things to get missed.

Make sure your GP and healthcare services have your current contact details. This helps letters, messages, and appointment information get to the right place so you stay informed about your care.

If you use the NHS App, you can update things like your email and phone numbers in the details section - but always worth a check to ensure this has updated at your practice/service.

Keeping your info up to date helps these services provide the best possible patient care. 💚💙

Updated 1:45pm – 29/10/25:
We’re pleased to report that the technical issue with the phones across some of the GP Practices has now been resolved by providers. Thank you very much for your patience during this time. 💚💙

Updated 8am - 29/10/25 - this is still the case this morning for some practices with providers still working to fix the issues as soon as possible. We will keep you updated.

4:00pm - 28/10/25
We're receiving reports from some GP Practices that they are having some issues with their phone lines currently, which is resulting in limited lines/an intermittent service. This is again a wider issue with telephony providers.

💡 In the meantime, if your GP practice offers alternative ways to request appointments (such as online services or apps), we recommend using these options, wherever possible, while the phone lines are experiencing technical difficulties.

📱 you can check your local GP practice's social media or website for updates specific to your area.

Practices apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding. 🙏 We hope this is resolved soon.

Please help spread the word to friends and family—especially those who may not be online or using social media to make them aware.
Thank you 💚💙

📰 “Viewers are shocked and all saying the same thing…”

Sound familiar? 👀
We see headlines like this every day now — designed to grab attention, spark outrage, bring out the keyboard warrior within us, or keep us scrolling. It’s called clickbait — and while it might seem harmless, constant exposure to exaggerated or negative content can take a toll on our mental health.

As the nights draw in and we spend more time indoors (and online), it’s easy to fall into the trap of “doomscrolling” or reacting to every piece of rage bait we see.

Here are a few ways to protect your wellbeing this winter:
💡 Pause before you click — ask yourself if it’s worth your attention.
📱 Set limits — try “screen-free” hours, especially before bed.
🌙 Do something grounding — read, stretch, journal, do some yoga/pilates or go for a short walk.
🤝 Connect offline — a cuppa and a chat can do far more good than another comment thread.
🧠 Curate your feed — follow accounts that inform, inspire, or make you smile (we inspire to be one of these said accounts wherever we can).

The online world isn’t going anywhere — but how we engage with it can make a huge difference to how we feel. 💙💚🍂

👩 Menopause will be included in NHS health checks for the first time to help millions of women get the support they need.

This will help raise awareness of symptoms like hot flushes, poor sleep and brain fog so no one has to suffer in silence.

NHS health checks are offered to eligible people aged 40-74 every five years.

They are aimed at identifying people with health risks including cardiovascular disease, stroke, kidney disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia.

Your pharmacist can provide treatment or some prescription medicine, if needed, for seven common conditions - without you seeing a GP.

Think pharmacy first and get seen by your local community pharmacy team.

UPDATE (5:00pm – 21/10/25)
We believe the issue affecting phone lines across some GP practices is now starting to be resolved. This was a widespread problem impacting several different telephony providers earlier today. Thank you for your patience and understanding while the issue was being investigated and fixed.

📢 Important Notice: GP Phone Line Disruptions (8:30am - 21/10/25)

We are aware of an issue affecting some of the GP practice phone lines this morning. Many practices are currently experiencing difficulties, and providers are working urgently to restore services as soon as possible. In many cases this appears to be creating an intermittent service with the lines available.

Please help spread the word to friends and family—especially those who may not be online or using social media to make them aware.
