While it’s important for our overall health to ensure that we get some Vitamin D, it’s also important to ensure that we protect our skin when the sun is out. It’s best to avoid being out in the sun when it’s at its strongest between 11am and 3pm during the period from March to October. You can read additional sun safety information here:

Find out how to protect your skin and eyes from UV sun damage, plus advice on using sunbeds and checking moles.

In this hot weather, if you use any form of prescription transdermal patch (e.g., pain relief or contraceptive, or HRT), it’s important to keep the area cool.

Elevated temperatures can cause the patch to release too much medication over a quicker period of time, so it’s important to keep it out of direct heat, and watch for any side effects.

If you’re concerned, please seek medical advice.

Around 10 million of us are regularly drinking alcohol in ways that can harm our health and wellbeing. Some will manage work stresses by using alcohol as a way to try to cope. The reality is that drinking alcohol as a way to try to manage our stress and anxiety can worsen our symptoms and prevent us from performing well. If you’d like help with alcohol, speak to us or look here:

Anaphylaxis is a preventable threat! If you suspect an anaphylactic reaction, immediately use an adrenaline auto-injector (e.g., Epi-Pen) if you have one and call 999. Get the patient to lie down and raise their legs, and if they’re struggling to breathe, they should sit up and raise their shoulders. Do not allow them to stand or walk. After five minutes, you can administer a second adrenaline auto-injector if they’re not responding. It’s important to remain as calm as you can; in this way, you’ll really help the patient.

Are you a veteran? It’s really important to let us know if you’re currently serving or have left the Armed Forces so we can ensure we look after the needs of you and your family.

From July, younger women (aged 25 to 49) who test negative for HPV, meaning they are at very low risk of cervical cancer over the next 10 years, will safely be invited every 5 years rather than every 3, in line with major clinical evidence.
This change is based on strong evidence showing that people without HPV are at very low risk of cervical cancer.
If you missed your last one, book an appointment with your GP.
