We've had a fun packed day celebrating World Book Day. Fancy dress was optional which residents really enjoyed and evoked some reminiscing. As well as talking about our favourite pieces of literature, we looked at the history of books and some interesting facts. Did you know the Bible is the best selling book of all time? We also completed some word puzzles based on famous books.
After lunch, some of us enjoyed the sunshine outside with a quiz while others took part in a book themed singalong including songs like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and I Wanna Be Like You from The Jungle Book.

We had a blooming marvellous afternoon with our Spring Fling event yesterday. With crafts, a tombola,flower arrangements and some amazing jewellery we raised funds for our residents. Thank you to all the community,friends and family for coming and a very special thank you to Lin,Lou, Paul,Jane and Jenny for your hard work.

We had a musical afternoon yesterday with a visit from one of our popular singers. Jack Darcy performed a lovely set including hits by Frank Sinatra,Elvis, Dire Straits and Oasis by request. The afternoon was accompanied by our Wednesday treat of High Tea with lots of delicious delights.

🍽️ Supporting Residents with Dysphagia – With Skill, Care and Creativity

Last week, our Head Chefs came together for an advanced training workshop focused on supporting residents who live with dysphagia (swallowing difficulties). The session was led by Andy Cullum, National Trainer for International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI), giving our chefs the opportunity to further enhance their knowledge and practical skills.

So what does this mean for residents and families?

✔️ Safer dining experiences, reducing the risks associated with swallowing difficulties
✔️ Meals tailored precisely to individual texture needs using the IDDSI framework
✔️ Food that remains nutritious, recognisable and beautifully presented
✔️ Encouraging residents to eat with confidence, pleasure and dignity

From recreating full traditional meals across multiple texture levels to learning how to test consistency accurately, the workshop reinforced how creativity and consistency work hand-in-hand to deliver truly person-centred care.

Because mealtimes should always be something to enjoy 💜
